Warranty on a 2013 CVO Breakout

I bought this bike at 9 months old from the original owner , in February 2014 . He had bought it new from Perth HD

January 2015 , the ABS warning light in the dash starts to stay on on occasions , then "goes off" normally on other ride days

Early February it comes on full time , really bright and distracting at night.

I'm at a "Ride day" at Frasers , having booked a test on a Roadglide ( thinking about changing ? Not no more , another story !)

While I'm out on the test run on a Saturday morning , Frasers workshop agree to plug the Dealer Digitech into the bike and see if it's a "fault code" type fix.

Mighty fine of them to do that , as they did not sell the bike to me , ( albeit I have bought all my previous Harleys from them new ! )

I get back from the test ride and no , it's "deeper" , could be a bad sensor , a pinched or broken wire , or even a "Bad ECM" !

Too big of a job for a Saturday AM , and " I'll have to book it in"

I contact Perth HD , as they had supplied the bike , and was told  "At least a 3 week lead time for workshop bookings" so I ask the "warranty girl" to make a note of my contact as the warranty has only weeks to run

She does so , and I keep riding with the ABS light constantly on. (The brakes are working fine ! ). By now a red warning light is also on most of the time , but if you push the front lever away from the bars it goes out !

4 weeks later or so , I phone Perth HD , get a different workshop dude of course , he tells me

"It's out of warranty mate , we'll diagnose and fix and see if Harley will pay a "goodwill" warranty."

LIKE FUCK says me , and I'm on the 'phone to HD Australia , leaving a message for the warranty bloke to call me.

No call back , a week of rain , and I call Harley Australia again.

"Colin" calls me back that morning , and after a "robust chat" about this and that , he tells me " I WILL NOT BE OUT OF POCKET FOR THE REPAIR "

Now that's what I wanted to hear all along. He calls Perth HD to " smooth the path" and I book the bike in for 4 days later.

I drop the bike in to them , 50 K's south of my house , and head up to the hills with my Mrs and daughter for morning tea at a nice caff.

2.5 hours later I call Perth HD and they tell me , it's ready to take home , thankfully before Perth's now real shitty rush hour.

Turns out it was 2 problems , a sticky front brake lever not returning all the time leaving the brake light on , hence the red warning light. Strip/clean and lube

The ABS light turns out to be a broken wire at the steering head , harness opened , repaired and heat shrinked. Seems good now.

I ride the bike away , no "contribution" from me haha...

Motto or moral of the story , in such circumstances be polite but FIRM and always involve HD's warranty department in Ryde NSW.

Now the dealers don't like that I'm sure , but look after your own interests.

Ultimately HD Australia and Perth HD looked after my " out of warranty" bike at no cost to me other than fuel time and trouble !

I got fucked over a dealership as well with an oil leak. I took it back to them three times and it wasn't fixed.

When they tried to fuck me over again, I called Harley Head office and that got them really pissed off.

I took it in one last time and they fucked the job. I ended up travelling 1,000 km to the next dealership to get it sorted.

All my services and warranty work now involves long trips but at least I'm enjoying the miles on the road.

    Glad it worked out.

What's the story/issue with the road glide? I wanna know as it's on my short list

The story with the Roadglide haha... ?

Yes , well I HATED it for the first 10 K's , not too bad the next 10 , and by the end of the last 10 K's I REALLY liked it !

Riding a new/"strange" Harley can be a wee bit like that.

A good mate of mine bought a 2011 Ultra Limited in Florida in 2011 when we were at Daytona Bike week and I rode that while appraising it for him.

First 10 miles I thought it was a pig of a thing , next 20 miles were WONDERFUL..

    Hard to explain really...
