28 tooth front pulley

Has anyone done this to their Vrod? thats the standard front sproket in the States, but we get a 30 tooth here. I was told the 28 tooth is like picking up 20 extra HP, but its expensive as it needs a new belt too, over 600 dollars fitted. Worth it?

not much feedback there on this issue paulT. I would like to know the same thing. How is it on the highway, is the speed and revs much better, fuel consumption on the highway, how about low revs round town, does it affect the speedo by much. Cmon guys someone must have something to share.

I've ridden a couple of vrods and I reckon they go pretty damn well as they are. And with a five speed box I dunno if I'd want one revving any higher at highway speeds which this would cause?

Some bikes do not need a different belt. Depends on the model.See how much adjustment you have on your back axle. If the bike is a 1250 there is 10hp just in a decent tune. But yes the pulley peps them up nicely.

R gday guys. I've started to get a bit more serious about doing this to my bike and after much research have been strongly advised by several professionals against it. There were several reasons to consider. Most important was the pickup on the oil pump doesn't pick up at low revs that's why v rods idle so high lowering your revs means possible oil flow problems and running round town in fourth gear therefore using more fuel. This is what was explained to me. If you know or think different please post but as advised to me spend the money on a tuner and a dyno that's what these machines were designed for. Apologies for the large speel.

Mmm, if the engine is turning more rpm for a given road speed then surely the oil pump will be turning more not less..... Sounds like BS to me. Using a 28 front adds approx 230rpm at 110 kms/hr. It is a good thing to do to pep up the poor low end of the STOCK motor. As I said above, not all models need another belt.

Yes, US bikes come stock with 28t pulleys.

A common swap in the US is actaully to 26 tooth...

Im not sure how a gear box pulley could alter your idle...
