Advice needed: FLHX solo seat with tour pak

Team, after attending Lascelles I have come up with this idea for my 2008 Street Glide. Touring alone I don't need extra weight behind the rear axle, but above it for better weight distribution so the bike handles better.

I've come up with the idea of installing a solo seat with the king tour pak mounted forward over the axle. This settles the weight better plus I get a better back rest because it iS attached. The tour pak mounting hardware is in the HD catalog. I've checked Ebay finding two seats that would be comfortable.

I already have the removable tour pak fitted

Seat two is Danny Gray with in built Airhawk seat pad, dimensions unknown. Stitched pattern.

Seat one is Mustang classic 17 inch wide without the Airhawk seat pad.  I've got an Airhawk that I can use. Plain leather.

Refer to the photos to clarify the idea. Pinched photo of finished look from Internet.

    Thanks for your forthcoming advice.

Travelling solo , could you just fit your gear into panniers and remove the top box ?

I certainly can as I already have detachable passenger back rest and rack.

I find the tour pak handy for the helmet plus I tend to over pack.

that looks like it would be bloody comfy on a long ride and the Mustang pictured on the bike looks like it would be the way to go.

I have the same mustang solo on my 08 FLHT. Had it for about 6 yrs and rate it as comfortable as the ultra seat that came stock on my bike when I bought it new. FLH's look nice with a solo seat. IMHO.

Neale, I have to agree with you.

I like the look of the solo seat with the tour pak mounted behind the rider. It just makes sense if you are touring solo on a long trip and intend to stay away awhile.

I need to get the solo seat at a reasonable price!

My bag sits on the back seat nicely that I take inside each night, Full face in the Top Box if it turns to shit plus bits and pieces, panniers have dirty clothes

in one side with thongs and runners the other side has some small tools, puncture repair and compressor as well as bike cover, it takes me all of 3 minutes

to strap the bag down on the seat and I am off.

Okay, the wait is over for the change over. Fiddled  around today with the new Mustang solo seat and fitted the new rack to the tour pak mount. No great drama to achieve both.

Yet to be tested on the road but I can't see any problems. Driveway test revealed that the seat was comfortable and the backrest close enough to lean into on a trip to give my back full support, higher than the standard backrest . The seat has  moved me back a bit but that shouldn't be a problem. If it is, I'll deal with it later.

Hi Mark,  good to hear from you.

I only popped the pak on the fittings without clicking it on properly for the photo. It does sit a bit lower and level when fitted correctly.

I think it will be great for solo touring with the better weight distribution and the ability to rest the upper back.

I reckon this is a good idea but is the tour pack mount for this setup moveable to give different sized riders the right back rest comfort? Nothing worse than feeling pushed too far forward. You also want any back rest angled back as some of the pics make it look practically upright without support for your lower back? Curious how this is working.

Also where did you buy the diff tour pack mount?

Looking good Krackers, like fatbat I'd be interested to know if the tourpack can be adjusted forward or back? I like the idea of additional upper back support
