I use the 1600 mA units and have three of them. You'll pick them up for about $50 online in Adelaide.

Use it all the time and still have the original battery in my bike, 09 Deluxe, and do FIFO , and some travel up to 7 weeks away, car is the same. Swear by the trickle.

I use the CTEK. Brand trickle charge also, rotating two chargers over three bikes. Fifo as well and no problems. Steve

juist my 2 cents  but research shows that when a battery gets below 12v it deteriorates quickly, I currently use a solar panel (providing you have access to daylight) that you can buy from Supercheap and other places

are free to run and cheaper than a trickle charger

The Harley alarm system uses around 100mA while the bike is off so you need a solar panel etc that puts out a minimum on 200mA plus

I have run one on my vstar 650 and it is an 08 model and runs the original battery still,  Also run one on boat and can be 9 months between starting

I rarely get two years out of my batteries in 25 years I have had 13 through my evo.

if its not starting a day or two after a good ride and the bike has been charging ok the battery is probably stuffed, wont hold a charge.
I only use aftermarket batteries , around a hundred to $120 each,

I have a heavy duty battery switch hanging off the side of my bike when bike is not running I turn it off,

last battery I bought locally was an agm type and I don't think my projecta 900ma battery tender likes agm batteries very much, when this one shits itself I will go back to the old
    lead acid type

Hi all...I bought my bike new in 2011 and have always had my battery on a trickle charger and ride often.
I have just put my 3rd battery on my bike.
My first charger was the junior fighter Frasers supplied.Next battery I used my ctek 10.This time ive got the new battery on the ctek 0.8.See how I go this time.

BTW,My bikes a softail, and I don't think having the oil tank wrapped around the battery helps with anything.

I pretty much ride my bike every day and recently the battery started to struggle a bit in the morning. I wrongly assumed that because I use the bike every day I wouldn't need to trickle charge. Since connecting it every night I no longer have any issues with starting.

I hadn't started the bike for about 3 weeks, so I put it on the trickle charger the night before I went on a ride. It started okay the next day. Stopped for petrol and it started okay again. Went to start again after meeting up for the ride and nothing. Had the battery checked out and was told it was all okay, but was told it's worth keeping the trickle charger on all the time. I've done that since, whether it's a day or a month without riding, and I haven't had a problem since.

Hi , newbie here. Some Qs related to his topic, so I thought I post up here too. Bought a 2014 model heritage Softail Classic 2 months ago. Bike ~18 month old with 6600kms on odometer. Absolutely loving it. I was using this Battery Fighter Junior (750mA) for my Ducati which I owned for the last 10 years. I am wondering if it will suit my 2014 Softail. Also some dumb newbie questions, where is Softail battery located? How to access it? Any special tools needed? Also what precautions/ procedure should I do to prevent electronic staff up ( e.g. Immobiliser, alarm,ABS, security codes etc) ?

Get a service manual if you like to play with things yourself , or at least an owners manual to figure out how to work everythinvg .

You can fit the Battery Fighter junior wiring pigtail without totally disconnecting the battery if you're careful to maintain electrical continuity as you do so.

In other words , keep pressure on the connections as you open and shut them up again , doing one at a time.

It's " easier " if you do disconnect the terminals but you don't have to , especially on a Softail where the terminals are easier to get to

There is another procedure not involving pulling the main fuse

TURN ON IGNITION TO DISABLE ALARM THEN TURN OFF AND WITHIN 3 SECONDS EITHER PULL THE MAIN FUSE OR DISCONNECT THE NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL/LEAD

Hi SSML ... yeah went through the procedure I mentioned and everything turned out fine ... weird how the manual doesn't mention it hey .

Retroman`s way of doing it sounds like the go as well except I wouldn`t try it as my fat fingers would stuff something up for sure , Lol

Not sure if someone has stuffed around with all the wirering under the seat of my Softail because there is no way I can get to my terminals that quickly that's for sure , not in a couple of seconds anyway ... admittedly I do have a power Commander stashed under there and it already has the tender connectors on too so that doesn't help ... but to be fair I absolutely hate Electrics of any sort , Lol

Good luck with attaching the wirering on yours .
