squeaking belt?

bought my 2008RK several months ago of a so called mate whilst I was in hospital for 3 weeks.

    anyway, got ripped off

when I picked it up it had a bald 130 front tyre on the back, did not realise this until I got home some 70k later as the bike handle like crap, also noticed the rear shockys had been changed and one was on the highest setting and the onter on the lowest, go figure.

was advised that a 180 tyre would fit on the back, even the bike shop said it was ok. had nothing but squeak squeak all the time.found out from harley dealership that I should only have a 150 max on there (they use a MU-------- something arather) 180 was rubbing on the belt guard.

changed to the genuine harley 150 tyre much better fit.

    rubbing noise is still there

    question

anyone know what is causing it?

also harley have crappy alignment cams on the axle, how would i know if it is acuately straight.

have not used belt dressing yet, read up on it and it is not a cure and can damage the belt?

how much is a belt and and what is involved in changing to chain drive

    65,000 k on bike

Best way to check belt alignment is to place a laser aligner on the rear pulley and project the laser down toward the front pulley,

You will see straight away if the rear pulley is in line with the belt and front pulley. If it isn't, you got a little bit of modification work to do to either the cams or the cam stops.

Forgot to say, remove the top belt guard to do this.

thanks, will have to get a laser, and i dont have a top guard, just another thing the guy ripped off me with,

if it is not the belt squeaking what else could it be ( it does sound like a rubber squeak not a metal squek)

I have tried spray on my car belt and it still comes back after about 300k

I have read up on the sprays and they don't seem to be very good for the long life of the belt, so I am in two worlds as to use the spray or not, the belt has 66,000 k;s on it

should I just do it and risk it hoping the belt does not let go, and also thinking of changing to a chain drive as I also like going places on dirt roads, what are your opinions please

he was suppost to be a mate, I was in hospital for 3 weeks and paid him after 1.5 weeks, my wife liked the bike as it was a FLH import ( she wanted to surprise me)., the photos show different rear shocks and apehangers.
we worked out that because he had 1 1/2 weeks worth of money and the bike, he purchased another and swapped tyre and shocks and other things over, even the horn did not work. basic response from him was stiff shit. don't have anything to do with him or the club anymore. just because we ride, we are not brothers...... yes I do see this as an isolated case. great bike now that I sorted everything out now. there wont be a next time, even though my wifes intentions were good, she is so sorry, even she can see the differences in the photos of sale and the bike.

he is not a mate anymore, I have had intentions of taking my tools and taking the parts back that are in the photos of the bill of sale........

Gees Aggy, sounds like you've been done over by this bloke. No wonder you and your wife are not happy.

Once it gets known what he has done he may be cast a side by the club or told to make things right.

Glad things are working out with the bike now.

what a fuckin arsehole, you should go to the tyre shop and let them see that the 180 doesn't really fit properly. You will probably find the bike even rides and handles better with the 150. If they wont do anything try selling the new tyre and then buy a 150.
