hi I just took bike into Peter Stevens for first 1600km service and also had it booked in to change pipes to V&H short shots and performance machine jet filter

since getting the bike back it is loud (of course) however it is back firing really bad each time you release the throttle or slow down ,,, theyve also softened my suspension which im not 100% convinced it feels a bit swooshy on the road plus my psi at 36

whats putting my nerves on end is that peter stevens dyno machine broke and theyve tuned my bike to someone elses forty eight specs ... so now this bike of mine just wants to go to fifth (and thats not how i ride) i use my gears why be in fifth doing 80km and theyve put way too much play in my clutch

can anyone shed some light for me please ? i feel im being taken for a ride by peter stevens and feeling embarrassed about my ride when i should be completely in awe of it

If it is Backfiring on decel you mite find you have a Exhaust Leak at the Flanges where the Pipes bolt in to the Heads, The easy way to check is start the Bike up COLD and carefuly just put your hand down and see if you can feel any exhaust comming out, Please dont put your hands on a Hot Exhaust

    It's usually 1 of 2 things.

1 - Exhaust leak as Walka said
    2 - Tune isn't right

Follow Walka's instructions above to check the pipes for a leak near the heads and if that's all good you'll need to look at getting it re-tuned. If you were going to pay Peter Stevens to do it but their machine is broken, can you go somewhere else instead?

I wouldn't expect a dealer to leave the exhaust loose, but the nuts and bolts do have to go through a bit of a heat treatment cycle before they stay tight so it's possible they've come loose from the heat & vibration.

it's too lean, you are introducing a lot more air, and with a free-er flowing exhaust it's not doing any favours.

I wouldn't trust one of those SERT "stage 1" tunes as far as I could throw the tuner box, but a competent dyno tuner could get it right.

    cool thanks guys

i rode it down to doc hogs in bayswater today and they checked a couple things also tightened my suspension but matt took it for a couple rides and agrees that its not tuned right he also noticed its gasping on the uptake

Im pretty PO'd as its as if the bike is riding with an idenity crisis it wants to power and roar then it just feels sluggishish when it shouldnt ... whenevers bike they 'claim' at peter stevens they tuned it from is a quick quick to fifth gear rider and i am not like that I live in the hills theres climbs decents bends not just suburb grid to highway am furious and feeling uncomfortable considering I bought new to not buy any problems Ive bought franchise pioneer incompentance ??

thing that annoys me more is that when i bought the bike I was happy to change the pipes n filter myself and they said no no no must tune then dyno blah blah blah and theyve handed me back a bike that is not running to maximum performance nor am i feeling 100% confident and they don't give a shit ... theyll care when i say give me back my money for services not done so I can go elsewhere

Dealerships are notorious for their lack if being able to tune a bike properly.
As stated take it to a reputable Indy shop.
Short shots need a bit a bit of work to tune out the decel pop but it can be done, I'm speaking from personal experience on that one

I would get the Re Tune from Brian at Eastern Big Twin first then go back to Peter Sevens with the results and prove that they did nothing. and your not at risk of killing your Bike in the mean time

everyone learns the same lesson mate, people think the dealers must know their shit because they deal with them day in day out... couldn't be further from the truth.

Depending on where you live maybe try harley city in Brunswick as I've bought a street bob with V&H short shots and SE heavy breather from them a week and a half ago and had no issues like you have mentioned! I do agree with Brash about most dealers like Peter Stevens as they are only after a quick $$$$$ and not happy customers.

@onion did harley city do the tune n dyno? was your bike brand new or had it been run in over 10000kms pre pipe n filter change?

You are dead right mate, my previous bike was a Suzuki Bandit which I bought new from Peter Stevens in Melbourne, so naturally I took it into them for the 1st service that was a big mistake came out with a missfire and they wanted to charge me over $500 told them where to go and not paying that amount when quote was around $240. Never went back again. I am now the proud owner of a 2014 HD Sportster and just loving it, but not sure where to get it serviced for the warranty, bought it 2nd hand but still has 20 months HD warranty. smileysmileysmiley

Any licensed motorcycle mechanic can perform any sort of work on your bike and it will not void your warranty.
Independent shops are generally better than the stealerships......................................................................
They need and want your business unlike the couldn't give a flying fuck HD franchisers
