G'day Michelle. Welcome to the forum.

Backfire is usually caused by an exhaust leak or bad tune. I notice you have posted in the Sportster section about your issue as well so check there for more in-depth technical advice.

    Welcome Michelle,
Definitely not NORMAL, easyfix in capable hands. Without 'dyno'
What kind of tuner do you have fitted on the bike?

    Yeah good one mish
After reading and posting on this here thread today realized I commented on the backfiring problem you previously posted in the sporty section
After updating myself on that thread saw you had the deal sorted out to your satisfaction, great to hear. Knaccas will behave himself out in public now and not cause you any more embarassment or grief
Lesson to be learnt there from the service or lack of, you received from your PS-HD stealership. Unsatisfactory im sure you would agree
Anyhow, have many happy days on your new machine and stay safe now
    Kind Regards to you

Thanks Flipdog :) I'll just say thou the buying experience at PS city was great out of all the melbourne region dealership they were the only ones that took me seriously when I was sitting on all of the bikes (especially the forty eight) when I was battered bruised arm in plaster but as far as servicing the trust is gone and really shocked me yet also a bit of (here we go again) in relation to being fed barrel loads of fear to branch out and source n look to control the customising n overall performance optimising ... Never fear got the workshop manual one day one day I'll be in full control of this bikes goings ons ;)

Hi Mish, welcome to the forums.

Kudos to you for having the guts to eventually giving it a crack at doing servicing / spanner work yourself.  Sometimes it isn't really that difficult if you have the patience, time and willingness to learn about your bike.

It's quite fun and rewarding when you are able to fix or adjust that certain part yourself, without having to take it to a stealership, and have your wallet lightened by more than it should have, whilst being fed all kinds of bullshit they'd have you believe.

If you ever get stuck, there are many helpful and friendly members here, who can provide helpful advice or assistance whenever you may need it.

All the best with your new ride, and I hope to hear more from you in the future.

    Regards,

    06 Softail.

Hey Mish & WECOME... u just need to self tune it, buy a little box plug in and away you go.

so do you have an iPhone? If so perhaps the Vance & Hines FP3 will be best bet, either way you just need a Tuner/Computer yeah... contact Griffin Spares in AUS but if you happy with bike Exhaust and PM Cleaner and not planning to do any other major engine mods.... then you are laughing with any of the AutoTuners like V&H FP3 or the RCX or the Cobra FI2000 etc etc etc there are about 5 that i recommend.

if you wanna do Cams later then maybe need a little better than the FP3.
if you wanna go crazy later then suggest ThunderMaxx ECM replacement.
Price is around $350 thru to $1000 but several auto tuners avail at that $400 kinda mark.
