Hi all, stupid question from a newbie so go easy on me.

So ive been cruising around on my softail for a little while now &  would like some advice on the best way to launch off the mark from you guys with alot more riding experience than me. I usually just take off normally & than open her up. Ive never really known how to (or had the balls to) launch off the line. What is the best way to do it. Can i just drop the clutch at say 4000rpm & will the standard clutch grab?  Thanks guys

Use about 3500rpm, slip the clutch just enough to get you moving before letting it out fully. Don't bother with burnouts or especially water burnouts. Stage shallow, leave on the last amber. Preload the gearlever with your foot and don't bother with the clutch after the start, just snap the throttle off momentarily and you'll change up. Use the flattracker technique of holding the left fork leg with your left hand and lean as low as you can to reduce drag. That should cover it.

On my Sporty if I'm in racing mode I will use the clutch from 1st to 2nd and then go clutchless from there on; and man it makes a massive difference in the distance you gain when compared to using the clutch per normal. Not sure If I'm brave enough to try the same on my old FXR as the transmission is not as smooth as the modern ones.

Be warned bud drag racing can get addictive , it's also bloody harder than it looks ! Start off slow and build up and the more you do it the quicker you get. My best time was low 10's on a Jap bike , that's pretty slow compared to others but still fun. I think WSID street meet is on tonite $50 for 1/2 dozen runs or so.
