Strange 1 second sqeak when I turn off engine.

    Hi there

I guess at the outset that this will be difficult to diagnose but I will do my best to describe the symptom. I have an 03 Fatboy in mint condition and today for the first time, after a ride, when I turned off the engine there was an audible kind of sqeaking sound almost instantly after I flicked the kill switch for about a second. Started it and let it run for about a minute and turned it off and it did the same thing. Weird, never heard that before. Bikes done 14,000k's and extremely well looked after and serviced regularly.

When I parked it in the wheel chock. I started it again and tried to isolate the area it seems to be coming from. I believe it's coming from up high in the area of the throttle body or in that general area between the two cylinders but I'm not 100% sure. I removed the air filter cover, filter (SE Hi flow kit) and checked if the throttle butterfly was making that noise, but as I said I was just having an educated guess. Everything in the throttle body was absolutely spotless. Checked the two rubber plug breathers in the air filter back plate and they seem perfectly fine as well. Noise is there when you turn off the engine with the clutch fully disengaged and also when it's in 1st gear with clutch in as well. Just for more information. I don't think it's anything serious but I'd like to try and find it.

Maybe someone else on this forum has experienced the same strange squeak when you kill the engine.

    Cheers

    Chirp or a whistle?

I have a 2010 Wideglide and it does it everytime I turn it of but's it's more of a chirp than a whistle...Apparently on mine it is nothing to worry about.

I wouldn't be to concerned over the Chirp sound, that's just the chick magnet shutting off.

I've never heard of anyone having major problems from a turn off "Chirp/squeak/whistle" and I'm told it can happen to anyone anytime. Maybe one of the other guys will know of a reason to be concerned about it, but I think it's just another quirk.

I think you are talking about a short shot of air coming out the breather system into the air filter. It is fine.

Had a similar noise on my bike, it was the 2 horn bracket bolts were loose, it was chirping under throttle.
