I've just bought a 2nd hand 2014 1200C Sportster with 2400 k's on it. Between about 2700 and 3200 in all gears, which equates to 100 - 110k's in 5th, the engine vibes get quite bad, at 120k's it smoothes right out again. Are they all like this?

Yep, Harley Engineering = vibes + mechanical noise.

Test rode a Indian Scout last week - made my HD feel like it was actually made in 1948 :(

depends on which gear you are... gear 1, 2 & 3 are smooth under 60km/h.... Use lower gear compared the speed. It will reduces the vibrations.

That Sporty has rubber mounts, so should be smooth.

from the rev range you are talking about that you get the vibration, i would say check your top engine mount, but to be sure check everything .

I hsave never owned a rubber mounted Sporty , but i had a 1996 sporty once, they are ridgid mounted so would vibrate more, felt smooth to me. I have a tube frame carb Buell that i have 95,000k on never touched engine mounts yet, but i have a stabilizer  bar thats not stock, the stock stabilizers stop side to side movement, the one i added stops forward to rear movement. it's smooth at speed & when it rev's but shakes at idle. if you guys can't take vibration .........

Sold my 2000 1200cc Sportster earlier this year... being rigid mounted it took a couple of months for my eyes to adjust to the vibration (the vibration sort of gave you double vision lol)... after that it was fantastic... what a beautiful machine ... couldn't keep it after buying a Breakout... as others have highlighted if you are really worried about it then get it checked out... Harley's do vibrate... even my Breakout... but no where near my Sporty.
