G'day everyone a question to ask.

Early Evo gearboxs were a bit noisy some have a good whine to them now I have been told running a thicker grade of oil may help with the noise, so what is a good oil to run and what grade of oil should be used cheers.

I don't think oil is going to fix a (good whine), maybe time for a trans recon.mainshaft bearing?

A lot of people say Redline shock proof. Redline recommend the lightweight one for Sportsters (heavy for the bigger twins) which is what I put in mine, and it's clunkier and noisier than ever. Can't fuckn remember what I had in there before that though... So yeah I'm keen to hear what people say as well because I might try a few different ones out.

Thanks everyone for your replies my bike is a 93 Heritage five speed, now I might be me just getting pickie but when I am down shifting through the lower gears I get a bit of a whine.

Ok had a few mates who have listened and ridden my bike they all said there is a slight noise there but nothing I should be concerned about.

The bike changes gears with no ill effect in fact it is smooth to other Harleys I have owned, one mate who has worked on Harleys for years suggested I should try a heavier grade oil because he said he has seen earlier model bikes than mine make a lot more noise and at times using the heavier grade did quieten them down a bit .

I have a slight whine on down-shifts and suspect that its more to do with the primary side of things as opposed to the tranny. I'll find out this winter when I pull it all apart!
