Hi, I have just recently purchased a 2014 Sportster Custom 1200 and just love the bike. But the rear suspension especially with a passenger could be better. Any suggestions for aftermarket shocks would be awesome. I have tried adjusting the pre load on the Harley shocks but not really the best and pre load adjustment on its own doesn’t really do a lot in my opinion any thoughts on that.

    Cheers  Scouser1 (Charlie

Where are you. I spent just over a grand on YSS shocks front and progressive springs up front and she's a totally different bike.
    Best money spent yet.

Just have a look at how much travel your standard shocks don't have. Their useless.

I can comfortably have near 200 kg on the back and only hits bottom on the really big bumps that catch everyone out.

My Mrs just bought a 2014 1200 custom  and i agree  the rear susspension is the bikes let down..  otherwise a great bike..

i have a 1970 ironhead sportster chopper  which still has rear susspension..  after trying many sets of rear shocks. i ended up buying some triumph rears  and they work a lot better..  they have a heavier spring.. i susspect the sportster spring is to light for the aplication

Just bought an 09 Sporty and was happy to find she has Ikon rear shocks (they are Aussy, but do not hold that against them)

Damn good suspension; very smooth and easy to adjust. They will customise the springs to your riding style and weight.

Definitely IKON, Geoff will make to suite you, He will ask what you weigh & roughly what you carry. Eg; pillion ( their weight) and camping gear. You will be very Happy with the finished product and the ride quality

Yell out if you want to sell the old shocks as they might just fit my FXR
