Got problem with 94 Evo Done 50000 ks been in storage for 5 years and owner left petrol in it have cleaned tanks and carb several times blown out etc but it will only run with choke on it runs smooth but cannot throttle on or push choke in it just dies does not appear to have air leaks, blocking off carb mouth kills it instant acc pump is working what am I missing ? any ideas thanks

What size pilot jet does it have in ?

 

Carb is stock bike was running fine till put in storage when i first took it apart had blue green film all thru it but have cleaned it all blown out when running with choke on it runs like it would at normal idle, it seems to run like  choke is not on cannot remember jet size does that matter if bike was running fine before ?

Just an idea, as you asked....

If it runs with the 'choke' but wont idle, I'd guess spark is OK, so fuel is the problem. The 'choke' is actually an enrichener, the difference being that a choke restricts airflow to provide a richer mixture, whereas an enricher adds fuel to provide a richer mixture. The enrichener uses a different inlet to the main jet. I'd guess that it's something to do with the float, needle and seat or the main jet - any of which may be clogged, stuck or whatever, not allowing fuel flow on normal running. I'd think the only thing you can do is try dismantling the carb and cleaning it out.

Maybe someone here knows how to check and/or clean that part of the carb without dismantling?

Did you remove all the jets, mixture screw and emulsion tube before cleaning ?
Were the small holes in the pilot jet clear ?
Blockages can be vary hard to shift if they are in the carb' passages.

Have cleaned and blown out carb 3 times all jets are clean, passageways seem to be, vos hose blocked while running with choke on I will get on to owner and see what she wants to do next Another carb to try probably best way to go Thanks to all for your input Ive never had any experince with these carbs my 85 has s&s and then have I brought a injected model had no trouble with either of them Cheers

Might need to get this carb off you I will ring owner and see what she wants to do .How long has it been off bike ? was it running fine up to that? sounds like accelerator pump is not working, did you dismantle and check? I know you said it works ;but they are nearly always the culprit with the symptoms you describe.

Have you thoroughly cleaned the pilot ciruit of the carb an easy but dodgy way is to blow carb cleaner then air through the idle mixture screw hole. But it is a very fine pathway that sometimes needs soaking then cleaning out and triple checking .

Mate if your asking about my carb it's been off the bike for two week as I change to a s&s carb. It was working fine when removed I changed as I did a cam change and had the s&s here so it went on. It has a dyna jet kit in it as well. I have a few jets you can have as well. Pm me and I'll pm you my number.

To the OP....Have you confirmed that you have the emulsion tube in correctly....
