Screamin Eagle Pro Race Tuner - Spark Timing

    Hello Guys

I have been fault finding for several months now this RINGING sound on accelleration. Amplified by my 3/4 helmet it drives me crazy.
Short of buying a half helmet where the sound is not so obvious, I would like to get to the bottom of it.

I have managed to isolate the ring to the front cylinder and as such would like to drop my Spark Timing down by 2-4 degrees for testing.
(I have been reading forums and I have tried everything other than change spark plugs and timing)

Now some questions for the Screamin Eagle Pro Race Tuner experts:

    - Should I drop every cell by 2-4 degrees or just an RPM rage (1500 - 6000)?
    - Should I drop both Front/Rear Cylinders at the same time?
    - Are there any tutorials on the Web?

    Cheers guys.

    Hello Guys

Thought I would add this following information:

On review of my recorded test rides, I have noticed that between 2500RPM - 4500RPM my Front and Rear Spark Timings are on average 2 degrees out.
My Front Spark Timings are always running -2 degrees that of the Rear in this RPM range. Is this mormal?

    Cheers guys

I would purchase ' mega log viewer HD' . O
Log some data and load it into viewer. Bring up the histogram graph and follow timing. It will identify and cylinder knock . It's a good tool. And cheap.

Have you considered it could be exhaust heat shields vibrating? Some air cleaners and 2-1 pipes produce an odd metallic noise too.

Thanks for the response guys. Greatly Appreciated.

Sunny Jim: Ill Look into it. Cheers
Krash Kinkade: year is 2012 883. Timing is as per the Screamin Eagle Super Tuner Pro Stage 1 for XL 883 (Air and Exhaust)
Fatbat: I have heat rapped exhausts, but ill check them out none the less.

I have already dropped the Spark Timing by 4 degrees to no success, ring still there on acceleration :(
I was going to look at the AFR next and RICHEN my fuel mixture. Was going to drop it from 14.6 to 13.9-14.1
I read on the Screamin Eagle site that every bike is different and the default AFR from their maps may not be appropriate.
Not sure if the bike is running lean that it would make a ringing sound.

I will continue to investigate, if you have any input please let me know, all help finding this sound would be greatly appreciated. :)

    Cheers guys

What fuel do you use? If it is pinging this will also have an effect.

    Hello Methuselah

I'm currently using Premium 98. I did think of trying a lower octane fuel just to see if there was a difference.

    Hello All

    Reporting back. :)

Well, how do I explain this.......... I went in to Harley Davidson to purchase a pair of new boots and, um, well............... I walked out with a HD 48 2015! :)
So this annoying sound is no longer a problem, but get this..... it would appear it was just mechanical because my 48 makes the exact same sound but just not as loud. Its ever so faint.
So as the engine run's in who knows it maybe back with vengeance! Ha Ha Ha

Thanks everyone who provided input, but I think given the 48 its just my hearing picking up on the frequency and resinating in my helmet.

    Cheers guys :)
