My bike has been sitting in my shed for a while.  I went to start the other week and it was dead.  I tried to jump start it to no avail.  I called the RACQ man, and he jump started it after cleaning the terminals.  He tested the battery and told me that it was not getting any charge and said that the Starter motor was buggered.  Is there anything else that could be the problem eg battery alternator?  I have got a price to replace the starter motor and it's very expensive.

Starter motor is buggered ? so how did RACQ bloke start the bike ?

You need to get the battery charged and tested first up.

Once you know you have a strong, fully charged battery then you can get the regulator and alternator checked.

BTW, all HD starters sound fucked to the inexperienced ear,, you know, Tractor engineering.

Once you have the charging system and battery check out and fixed if required, then you can make a decision about the starter.

Ya never know, ya might be lucky and it's simply a case of flat battery and cruddy leads/terminals .

Thanks guys, I have taken the battery to get fullly re-charged, so will find out in a couple of days.  My mistake, the racq man said it was the Stator I thought he said starter, sorry for the confusion.

How will I test if its the stator or regulator?

Once you get a good battery, you'll need a multi-meter to check the system voltage.

First off it's basically to find out if the system is charging or not, that is check the voltage across the battery with bike not running. ( 12.2 to 12.5 volts)

Then check voltage across battery with bike running (should be 13.0 to 14.5 volts)

If when running the bike doesn't increase the voltage then you will know that system is not charging.

If not charging you then have to determine if it's the regulator, or the stator.

There are heaps of online instructions for that, here's just one,
