Been a lot of spammers lately. Staying on the site for a while before its removed? Whats going on Mods? Maybe enlist some more help to get rid of them. PITA they are.

All forum software has provision to block specific email addys and blocks of specified ISP's, I wonder if Admin could block the ISP area where these spams are coming from ?

    Well I'll bite .

As a Mod I just checked the stats . It's currently a spammer every 2 days . It looks like more as they post multiply and the Forum Software shows a ghost listing after we delete them . So unless someone posts in that section the ghost listing stays up .

While we have changed the forum to not allow people from certain countries to join the spammers now use IP scramblers to disguise the country they are logging in from . We implemented many other measures and most have had a telling affect on the volume of Spam we get . Most spammers are nailed within an hour or two of them posting . All the Mods check regularly but we all work and regardless of how many Mods we have it will only marginally improve these times . All sites get spammers especially high traffic ones .

Eventually they get bored and target other sites . They are businesses and rely on hits from a site to keep going . If they get none they die off . It has happened before and will happen again

Yep. I know. I started that one too. I was seeing what it would be like to be a spammer if only for a brief moment. I got bored.

Assuming you mean all the posts about fake passports, drivers licenses, qualifications etc.

Never see that sort of stuff on the "Sunday Church forums" (not that I can actually verify that)

Wonder why they target the Harley forum?

Anyone been silly enough to try and buy a fake license or PHD  off these unsavoury characters? Thankfully no one ever seems to reply to em.

Ive said it before, surley some bright programe writer could write a programe that sends a computer lock to spamers that sends spam for say, fake licenses.

Like, send a fake order, spammer opens order, there comps locked,

Remember, spamers sometimes lock buisness computers and bribe the buisness owner to pay an unlock fee.

As has happened in particularly doctors surguries in QLD.

Point is, these pricks can do it, why cant we.

surely a bright spark programer could help the forum out.

Even if we all put in 1 dollar to pay programer.

if enough did, ( Its only one  damn doller each ) we could fuck em up.

Be nice to turn the tables just for the hell of it.

Can you put up a qualification question in account creation? Something simple like "What is the second part of the Harley MoCo name?" Should kill quite a few bots attempts.

They should be using Captcha to confirm accounts. A lot of sites use them now to combat spammers/bots. You couuld also use the return email requirement to confirm accounts. At least it would stop the crap that is happening now.. I just loggen on and bloody hell, every column topis has the spammers post on it...

Shit mate , don't bin them , I was after a new licence and passport !

Oh well , suppose I'll just have to get one the good old fashioned way at the licensing centre and the passport office...
