My FXDF has done 30000km and never used any oil, I have just put a Cobra exhaust on and it is now starting to use a bit of oil, is this coincidece or down to the more free flowing exhaust?

Can't see that a simple exhaust change would cause oil useage

Have you had the fuel mixture calibrated to suit the exhaust change?

My thinking (could be wrong) but if not adjusted the bike could be running leaner / hotter and the oil may simply be misting ?

Sounds like coincidence to me, but if it is running lean as a result of the exhaust upgrade the extra heat may have something to do with it.

Thanks Gents, I had slipons and heavy breather air cleaner before with a SE tuner set for stage one, the dealer has said their is no other adjustments for the tuner withut going to stage 2, is this correct?

If it already has a stage 1 tune on there, the difference between slip-ons and a full system should not make much of a difference at all.

There will be a different map available for the full system as opposed to the slip-ons but your dealer is half right in the sense that further adjustment shouldn't really be necessary.

The manual says to check the oil every time you fuel up.

This might seem like an extremely cautious approach and I gotta admit I don't. However I have noticed low oil levels before with a similar mileage bike to yours.

I check the oil more frequently now. Far as I can tell,even new motors use oil to some extent.

How much oil are you actually talking about and how are you measuring the usage?
Have you done all your own services and its only since the new pipes you have noticed this?
Did you regularly check the level,say every 1000ks, and it was minimal or barely noticeable, but now it has gone extreme?
Is it the same brand oil used each time or did you change to synthetic?

Thanks for the replys, It has dropped two notches on the dipstick in 2000km, I have not added any oil as i don't believe it is low enough yet, is this correct?

The dealer does the service every 8000km with HD Full Syn and I change the engine oil and filter every 4000km, last time I used Mobil 1, it had done 2000km on the Mobil 1 without using any oil before the exhaust change..

before the exhaust change i could not notice any oil usage on the dipstick, i check it every 500km or so.
