Is my speedo screwd?

G'day fella's, I got heaps of moisture in the speedo and now the odometer LCD is just a blur.  Do I chuck it or will it recover in time?  If I do need a new speedo how do I go about it given I'm some 1600km's from the nearest dealer.

    Cheers Rich

Stick in in a plastic bag full of rice and those silca bags (you find them in packages and they suck up moisture), should be right in a few days.

Bugger, Bonkers has a great idea, but I don't think the lcd screen will recover though. Plenty of speedos on E-bay.

G'day FLHuTChU, I did look at some second hand eBay speedo's but I'd like to keep the correct recorded millage.  Reading up on it the milage is stored in the speedo itself not the ecu.  I'll continue on with the rice method and report back.

Yep i would do the same. A new speedo from the dealer and they can transfer the ks but distance and $$$ are both huge. Would be a fluke if you find a second hand one with similar ks you could use.

Yep, my speedo was screwed. The LCD never recovered.  I ended up eBaying a genuine HD speedo/tach gauge from Peter Stevens Melbourne.  It cost a bit but the addition of a tacho lessened the pain in the pocket.  The odometer reading copied over with the use of a adapter harness included with the gauge.  Because my bike is pre-2007 Softail I miss out on functions of distance to empty and gear indicator.
