2012 FLHTCU Ultra Classic 103cui  45,000klms..just out of warranty.

Engine stops or excessive revving between 4klm and 8klm. I ride everyday and travel interstate often.

Stop at a set of traffic lights between the above klm's and the engine would at idle rev increase by sometimes 200 revs and then increase to 2000 revs or 3000revs and stay there. shut down and restart numerous times to get it to run properly. Some restarts taking up to MAX of battery! like 6 to 8 mins of cranking then fire up n run perfectly.

Ride along at any speed again between 4 to 8klms and have the engine cut out or break down until it comes good after struggling keeping it rolling for 1 to 3klms..then is ok.

These were the worst but also with lesser running coughing n spluttering problems etc but once it came through the upset the engine was perfect again until you finished your ride on the day  (10 to 600klms with numerous stops n starts etc all ok)

After a few weeks of breaking down and trying to problem solve, no longer in warranty I went to the Harley Dealership where for 3 full days there problem solving this brain busting problem with NO FAULT CODES being detected they managed to find that the Engine Temperature Sensor was faulty. THEY were FANTASTIC in keeping costs to a minimum and the work they did.

SO anyone with this type of problem dont bother with headaches..dont summise it is the ECU or TPS etc....start at the bottom and replace the cheapest bits first I recon.

Good to see your problem was solved,, and you shared this with us on your first post !!! But to keep the natives happy ,, bung up a intro in the introduction section,, and possibility a pic of your ride...

Back to the topic ,,, did the dealer tell you that if the Engine Temperature Sensor is faulty ,, it should throw a code ??? if it should, why did'nt it throw a code ?? You think it would , for ease of trouble shooting !!!!

You seem to put the miles on ,,, (thats what there made for), Cheers..

    Hi Guys,
I have had similar issues with the late Tourers. No codes but bike runs bad. Somehow the engine temp sensor can cause the engine to go in and out of cold start mode without giving a code. I now keep an engine temp sensor in stock as a first point of replacement. The other main problem part is the extension harness from the throttle sleeve harness to the main lume. This problem will give 5 codes telling you to replace about $1k worth of parts. After many hours on the first one a few years ago I found the terminals work loose and cause major issues. New harness extension, tweak some terminals and problem solved.
    Cheers Brian.
