Hi Dan,
I am 52 and a new Harley owner living in the Lockyer Valley, best place to learn to ride a Harley.
I have a young family so family commitments come first but always looking for a friend to ride with.I have an awesone Fatboy 2008 Aniversay Model to play with,
Been 17-18 years since I threw a leg over any kind of bike and not even taking it for a test ride before buying??????"??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
I'm either mad or crazy, you be the judge,
Look me up when you are ready to learn as the roads out here are very forgiving.
Thanks,
I appreciate any input good or bad,
But remember if its bad,I wont remember next day anyway
I know what its like to have one foot in the grave and hope like hell the bike we are riding doesn't fall over on us and die.
My other half want to hop on the back as well but I have decided that until I feel confident she doesnt come with me,I try and ride nearly every day to build my hours up as the last bike I rode was a DR 600 in the bush so a big difference to the current bike.
So far I am loving the experience,
I have just done a youtube video of a local ride one afternoon and will post it as soon as it is ready.
Cheers
I was very nervous and the sheer size of these beasts is enough to scare anyone.
My first few rides were daunting to say the least and I probably took a few risks at the start by not having the right safety gear,I have since bit the bullet and bought the right gear to at least come out of a slide intact.
I watched a few youtube videos on "countersteering" and this helped me a lot.Master that and you will be fine.I have only around 5 hours up so far so you judge by the video if I am doing OK??
My main problem is coming to a stop and not falling over, using the back brake and clutch I am slowly overcoming that problem.
I have just added an engine guard to my bike so if I drop,it isnt so bad.
I have also added mirrors with a blind spot included from HD as I felt I needed more.
What makes it worse for me I bought a second hand bike with 16" Ape hangers and I assure you the bike isnt standard so a bit more power than normal to contend with.
Would have loved this to chase down an emu out west.

Thanks for the vote of confidence Dan,sorry its so long, must have been a pain to watch, didnt have time for much of an edit, Internet here is not the best so I uploaded it at night,
What side of Ipswich are you on ?
Welcome mate
Well you better get a pair of these as well, mine are on the way.
Kuryakyn Large Footpegs with offset mounts, landing here for around $220 pair.
I chose the offset because I'm short and gonna need a little help reaching them.

Had the day off today and thought I would give the old girl a service and when I took the aircleaner off, noticed the return throttle cable a little slack, gave it a bit of a pull and guess what, been broken for a long time.
Rusted through in fact so I needed to order a new one ,mind you they are 42" long and braided and only come in pairs so another $200 plus.
On order so no riding for a week or so.
I stopped telling her what I'd spent a while ago
When do you get your bike and when and where do you do the refresher coarse, sounds like something I should probably do.
welcome mate You'll be fine with your new bike, they're a piece'o'piss to ride Wish you both well for a happy, safe and prosperous future Marriage made in heaven Regards FLIPDOG
G'day all. I've been lurking here for a few weeks now after I picked up a 2nd hand Fatboy low, Another Ipswich bloke (northside) Keen to tag along for a ride sometime if that's ok. I've been putting around those same roads as on your vid hereathome. Late afternoon when the day is cooling off is perfect this time of year. This is my second HD , I had a 93 fatboy 20 years ago. Same as the Arnie terminator model. I'm noticing its common for me to be the old fart in the group these days , 53 years young. A couple of things I've noticed this time around. The first was the wind buffeting seems alot worse than I remember , including turbulance from trucks ect. Maybe its because I've been riding a bike with a screen lately. Also the fat tyres that are in fashion now don't seem to turn as easily . 120 wide on 16 in rims on the 93 evo compared to a 200 rear and 140 front on 17s on the 2010 fatty. I'm happy to lead or follow on the rides. There's plenty of nice loops of varing lengths and different directions right on our doorstep , so hope to catch up some time..............Ian
