I was wondering if anyone can help me. I am looking at buying a reduced reach handlebar for my 2011 Night Rod, will I need to replace anything, like brake lines, throttle cable or clutch cable?
Thanks in advance
i did this change on my 2009 NRS and no cables needed to be changed. I still have the stock seat and noticed that as soon as i got rid of the standard drag bars i wasnt so racked out anymore. Hope you get the same effect. Its a much improved, more comfortable set up.
Hi Southwind, thanks for your reply. I am getting conflicting stories, I am told that I need to change the ABS brake line, does your model have ABS brakes?
Yep my 2009 NRS has ABS. Original cables did not need replacing.
Thansk Southwind, appreciate you aking the time to answer my question and clarify, cheers Stu
Hi Guys, just picked up my 2009 Night Rod Special ABS, love it. I also need reduced reach bars is this the one:

The Harley site also says: VRSCDX models require the separate purchase of additional components. Any idea what they are?
Cheers
Tony
Hi Tony,
Yes they are the correct bars.
I have been told 3 different stories as to what I need. As you can see from Southwind's post he says you don't need an abs cable. Peter Stevens says you need the idle cable and abs cable and then I've been told you just need a abs cable. I bought my bars yesterday and have ordered an abs cable from Queensland, apparently there are only 2 in Australia and they are both in Queensland and was told that the next order is not due in the country until mid May. I have my basr booked in to get changed the day after Easter Monday so I can let you know for sure then if you like.
Cheers - Stu
Hey StU7,
how did you go with the bars?
Use Sportster Iron 883 bars. I put these on mine yesterday in just over 1 hour. Direct replacement NO brake lines needed but gives you nearly as good as Reduced Reach reach. Here's photos...
Hi Tony last time i was at the dealer i was eying off those exact bars i spoke to spare
parts and they said they would fit but the knurling in the centre clamp section
would either : not line up or the knurling would be exposed outside of the bar clamp.
Did you see any of this in your fitment? could you possibly post a close up pic of
the clamp area detail?
Thankx in advance,
Kym......
Hi Kym, no problem with bar installation at all. The knurl was perfect fit, about 1 mm exposed on each side of clamp. Everything fitted perfectly and they are easy-reach for me at least, I'm 5ft 6.5 inches. btw, I also fitted the easy-reach footpegs which are a big improvement.
Hey Southwind,
Yes I got the bars fitted beofre my trip to Perth and needed to get the front ABS brake line changed. Not sure how you got away with it as my other mate had to do the same?
Thankx Tony, sorry i didnt reply i have been in hospital. The other good thing about those bars is that they are
considerably narrow across the whole width.......
Cheers,
Kym....
Gday guys. Here's a few pics of the changes I had to make. The standard bars on a muscle bolt straight to the triple tree no clamps. I am a short arse so to raise and pull back my bars 2 inches up and back I had to buy nightrod risers ( $120 ) from harley and nightrod bars. All are pictured. As you an see heaps of length on cables etc and I have since worked out if I fiddle with cables and brake lines I can get about another 3 inches using 8 inch wide glide bars ( $90 ) instead. It's easy so I hope this clears up some questions.
