just wondering the cheapest option to get a bike across the country.. Thanks people
Cheapest would probably be riding it with camping gear on the back and a stash of baked beans?
Look on gumtree. There's a bloke with a Harley crate can't remember where he was but you never know your luck.
Also I wonder what Harley and other new bike retailers do with their crates. Could be worth exploring
I had my Softail transported from Sydney to Adelaide by guys who have a purpose built truck specifically for bikes. I will post their details later tomorrow as their fridge magnet is stuck to my tool box at work. They do all eastern states as well as WA. Cost me around $500 from Sydney to Adelaide. Highly recommend them.
P.s no bike crate required either.
If you started calculating cheapest by working out fuel cost alone you're at 4,500km, let's say your softail runs nice at 5L/100km and average fuel cost $1.20/L (less now but who knows in the desert!) equals $270. But then 3-4 days minimum travel with food and accommodation (tent aside). So even Rider offering to ride might not be cheaper than a crate in a truck! Is it air cooled? This time if year in the red centre riding!
Crate it!
hey mate, send me the details if you have them
I went with Bikenut as Chopa has recommended. Sydney to Perth front door in December 2014 $1025, about 2 weeks from pick up till drop off, all done via there website a bonus and hassle free. Good luck if you choose to ride, and enjoy the trip.

Hi there, I remembered to check my tool box today for details, PBMT.com.au ( Paul Barker Motorcycle Transport) were the guys who transported my bike from Sydney to Adelaide a couple years back. No complaints at all from me, you can call them to track the whereabouts of your bike anytime too from memory.
