Indicators Wiring

Ok, so I will start this by saying I am no auto electrician (which will no doubt become obvious).

I have just purchased a set of front and rear replacement indicators for my 07 Sporty (4 in all) from Hong Kong.

They are black bullet indicators, aluminium casing, to replace the largish chrome stock indicators, and I am really happy with the quality of them.

The front indicators mount on the forks by way of a bracket, and the rear I can position almost anywhere I am prepared to drill a hole in the rear fender.

Two of the indicators have black and red wires only, and the other two have black, red, and green wires (green presumably is the earth).

In the absence of instructions (yes they came from Hong Kong) which indicators go where ?????

One of each on the front and rear of the bike, or two of each ?

Told you I wasn't an auto electrician, but any advice would really be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance guys.

I would have guessed the 2 wires on the front and threes on the rear - since places like the US (not sure about HK) have brakes in their blinkers - thus the third wire.

They could be set up like this. The front ones that mount on the forks I guess have the 2 wires? and the other ones have 3 wires? if that is so then the rear ones might also have brake lights in them.
A quick way to check, is to power them up off the bike first to check what wire does what. You could use a 9 volt battery like the ones found in smoke alarms.
The front ones should be straightforward. Just connect each of the 2 wires to the battery terminals - and +. Most stuff from China use BLACK as the earth or - wire.
The rear ones will most probably have the same 2 colours for the indicators and the other wire will be for the stop lights.
If the above is correct then all is good. If you don't want to use the stop light option then don't connect them.

As I said, better to check and find out what wire does what before it goes on the bike and using a 9 volt battery will keep you safe.
If you do remove the battery out of the smoke alarm buy another one for the alarm and put it back in straight away.

And if the new ones are LED and the old ones were incandescent, you might need a load equaliser of some sort to get the flasher flashing.... don't know the specifics for your bike...

If you are able to, bring it to me and i'll professionally wire and mount them for you. Green has never and never will be an Earth on anything automotive (green maybe in your house wiring.)
