Now that they have been out for a while , whats the thoughts  from the people who have owned them , are there problems or is it scarmongers , I've read they have vibration problems ,  One review i read virtually said  if you want to do long journeys forget it unless   you want to tighten every nut and bolt when you get  where your going .  Looking for  a light bike i can put the missis on , mainly 2-300 klm day trips , and the occasional interstate journey .

But definetly don't want to do the ocean road and  be going back picking up peices .

They're a dyna so the engine will vibrate the bike a bit but no more than any other dyna or tourer.
Unaware of any issues with them. They're just another dyna with detachable touring gear.

I've got a Switchback, had it 2 years and wouldn't part with it now.

Bought it near new (only 400km on the clock) and the previous owner hadn't fixed the factory vibration issue. Rode it home and was convinced I'd bought a lemon. Did some research and identified the exhaust mount bolts as the problem. It's an easy fix, or fitting any aftermarket exhaust (slip on or full system) fixes it automatically. I've since had the engine mount issue (factory recall) attended to but didn't notice any real change, it was already fixed in my opinion. It still has the typical Dyna vibe at idle, but it's gone by the time you reach 1500 rpm.

It suits me an my wife just fine, she rides on the back. A super practical bike and it handles better than any other dyna or Softail I've ridden. We've added a more comfortable seat and larger pillion foot pedals, as well as the customary sissy bar. The bags come off real easy but are deceivingly small. We bought a cheap Chinese top box with integrated rest for the longer rides. Never used the front screen, piece of crap I think. Causes too much buffeting but maybe that's my height (6'2").

I had a slip on fitted and as others have mentioned the unpleasant vibration changed into a pleasant vibe at idle that smooths out as revs climb. I mostly ride it solo. The panniers are great for day trips or over night trips but not big enough for two up touring. I had a high flow air filter, a tuner and cams fitted and now it got the overtaking grunt to match the touring look.

Downsides? Well the single front brake needs a good squeeze (I'd rather see an option for dual front brakes like the tourers) and the pillion pegs are attached to the swing arm (which I thought went out with trail bikes).

On balance I'm pleased with the bike and it's good value for money but I'd like to update to a Road King which is a better fit to my usage.

Sounds like just what i need /want .... Rodders i currently ride a v strom 650 , awsome bike , enables me to take a look around and ocupie myself when i'm bored , goes through the twisties like a sports bike and handles dirt ok . ... I also have a rocket 3 tourer , The rt3 used to be my first bike and my touring bike , but missis does'nt want to tour only the occasinal trip is enough for her , and i'm just itching to do the Ocean road , tassy on the v strom . , So the rt3 has been relagated to the back .

But the missis has decided she wants to ride again occasionaly ,and cannot will not go on the v strom . and the group she likes to ride with , they generaly like to ride on the esplanade and coffee shop, hop stopping every 5 minuites , This is where i'm starting to struggle with the rt3 ,, i had a triple by pass 18 months ago , got that little bit older and a lot weaker and 2 up i'm starting to struggle its getting too big for me . But it is the most comfortable tourer i've ever been on , and overtaking fuck it rips your arms off .

Thats why i'm not looking at a RK , i already have the rt3 which is effectivly a RK on steroids , i want lighter , and more manouverable , may even keep the rocket and mothball it ready for a long journey , But the more i think about the switchback the more i like it , good for round town , 2-300 klm day runs and can strip it down when she's not with me .
