I want to add extended forward controls onto my abs equipped softail deluxe, but it requires removal and replacement of the break line to the abs system, any help would be useful.

    Buy a manual
Don't turn on ignition until brakes are pressured up

G"day there. Brakes can be tricky, If you are asking questions about this sort of thing then i would strongly recommend you take it to a bike shop and get them to do it, OR, get a workshop manual and start reading.
To Quote the workshop manual, "Any time the ABS module, either master cylinder, or any line between a master cylinder and the ABS module is disconnected or replaced, Digital Technician II must be used during the brake bleeding procedure to verify all air is removed from the system. Failure to do so could result in air in the hydraulic brake system, reducing brake efficiency, which could result in death or serious injury."
Hope this may assist in your decision. Cheers.

Thanks for the info, nearest HD service shop is 5 hrs away, I am hoping a non HD service/repair shop will be able to help, will post if successful.

You don't need to take ya bike to a Harley tech, I have done several different varieties of bikes with ABS and so long as you bleed the brakes before you turn on the ignition you won't have any issues.

I use a sucker or suringe and suck the oil through the brake line then use the pump up method with the lever or pedal for the final bleed

Bobs ya Uncle, pretty simple don't need to get scared of with poor info

Thanks, I've taken the plunge and changed the lines over, just need to get a good bleed before I turn anything on.

For any interested it was a complete success, just goes to show that you cannot believe everything they tell you at the dealerships

Sound's like everything was a success ,,,, Mods complete, no leaking, etc,, tick ,,... When bleeding / flushing the brake system ,, no air bubbles , tick ........ A nice firm , solid brake ,, tick,, .. Brake's work properly after test ride ,, tick ,.... ABS light goes off when over 5km an hour, and stays off while riding ,,, tick ,, ...

One more thing I would check is ,,, (which you have not mentioned),, .. Test the ABS , ie,, activate the ABS system, front and rear .... Find a quiet road ,, no traffic ,, at approx 30 -40 kms per hour , and perform a controlled emergency stop,, front and rear separately ,, then both together ,,, you should feel the ABS activate ,,, tick .....

Well there is thread on here somewhere about issues with this sort of thing. Brakes locking up or being hard and not releasing. If you are confident in your mech skills then no problem and good on you for doing it. But you asked us and if the shit hits the fan, don't be surprised. Hopefully all will be good And you can disregard my concern. Cheers Hutch.

Only agenda is safety. You sounded unsure of what to do so I thought I would play it safe and give the advice of what the service manual says. Not my bike so why should I care what you do. You asked, I answered. Simple. Ride safe now.
