99 Softail Brake Bolt Size

Heya team, I ran a couple searches with no hits so I thought I'd ask the question.

Today I was riding the new (to me) 99 Softail Custom home from work and the top bolt fell out of the front brake caliper. I footled to the nearest bolt shop and looked for a high tensile replacement but had no luck finding something that would engage. I borrowed an Allen key and took the bottom sliding pin out to compare threads, a 3/8 UNF, which I tried on the spot with no luck. I assumed the thread had been damaged by the exiting bolt and bought a 3/8 bolt, thinking I'd restore the thread at home. Nope! After checking ebay for replacement chrome bolt kits, the top thread appears to be a 3/8 UNC. Can anyone confirm or debunk this theory? I'd like to walk back into the bolt shop tomorrow with some confidence. :)

    Thanks in advance!

Answered my own question! I found a 2" 3/8" bolt in my man cave and it went right in. It isn't high tensile so I'll replace it tomorrow and the lock washer. Good to go. Thanks for watching! :)

Good on ya Dahlo,, thats what we like to see,,, someone researching their problem before they post ,,, Then post up,, and when, and if, they solve their problem, post up how they may have solved the problem !!!! You go to the top of the class ,, and into the monthly draw , for people that use their brains !!!! Dont know what you'll win ,,, but I hope for you, it is a high tensile bolt to fit your caliper !!!!
