Heya team, I ran a couple searches with no hits so I thought I'd ask the question.
Today I was riding the new (to me) 99 Softail Custom home from work and the top bolt fell out of the front brake caliper. I footled to the nearest bolt shop and looked for a high tensile replacement but had no luck finding something that would engage. I borrowed an Allen key and took the bottom sliding pin out to compare threads, a 3/8 UNF, which I tried on the spot with no luck. I assumed the thread had been damaged by the exiting bolt and bought a 3/8 bolt, thinking I'd restore the thread at home. Nope! After checking ebay for replacement chrome bolt kits, the top thread appears to be a 3/8 UNC. Can anyone confirm or debunk this theory? I'd like to walk back into the bolt shop tomorrow with some confidence.
Thanks in advance!
Answered my own question! I found a 2" 3/8" bolt in my man cave and it went right in. It isn't high tensile so I'll replace it tomorrow and the lock washer. Good to go. Thanks for watching!
