Well I have just about all the parts to start to convert my 07 super glide to wideglide front end using an 21 inch softail wheel

this will take a couple of weeks to fully sort out , so I will keep this thread updated as I go.

    The aim is to fit.

1 1/4 inch western bars with internal wiring   -   already done

chroming the headlight shell   -   already done

fitting spoked rear wheel   -   pick up in the morning from having tyres fitted

fitting spoked 21front wheel   -   pick up in the morning from having tyres fitted

fit new custom wideglie trees   -   arrived today

chromed softail wheel spacers   -   arrived today

softail front axle   -    should be here tomorrow

fitting 21 rims to standard hub has been done in the states and the people have been happy with the conversion, but this is going to be an experiment in fitting a standard softail wheel, so we will see what the outcome will be

    The new trees

A1cycles engineering are making wideglie conversion kit for 49mm forks complete with axle and all the spacers for the standard hub in 40mm aluiminium

so I had a set off trees made to suit my project, they are made in standard rake and convential top, they do 3 and 6 degree rake and hidden top options for the conversion kits

they arrived today and look a treat, big thick and highly polished

    And so the surgery begins

this photo has the super glide axle and spacer at the top and the 07 softail axle (41545-07A) and chrome spacer kit(41597-07) below it.

using the standard superglide fork legs and the wide glide trees these seem to be correct clearance

so far the wheel is fitting ok, still have to put the brakes back on to make sure of the clearance

    This is the front veiw

    this is the side veiw

this is the veiw from the hadlebars with westerns fitted

still have to fit brakes and remove the plugs so I can put the wiring through the trees next weekend

will also have to turn up some spacers to fit the mudgaurd out of stainless

and here is the spoked rear wheel fitted

    work in progress

New blinker relcoaction kit has arrived today

Harley have come out with a new blinker relocation kit which is far better than the old one for 49mm forks (even if it is made in china)

    Part No 69433-08

these are solid and heavy die cast and chromed.

A far better effort than the 07's

For standard trees only it was $680 all up, and that was including C.O.D cost

    The web site is www.a1cycle.com.au/

Best to ring and discuss options

His kit is for converting the front end using a standard Dyna wheel , what I am doing is a bit of an experiment

    Now for the bad news

When fitting the disc brake back on today I found that it dosen't line up, it is about 5mm out

So now I have to either space the disc caliper or space the disc out 5mm

    Does anyone have any suggestion

Has anyone tried to space a caliper out before

Those blinker kits look a lot shorter than the old ones. Do they reduce the crab eye effect? Might have to swap mine out.

Wideguy this is the front veiw of the new blinkers

Grumpy you are a life saver, I was looking for stainless today to turn it up myself, I have just ordered a spacer from evil cycles on ebay

    cheers

Ok today I checked the wheels position and found that the wheel is off centre by about 5mm

so I swap the spacers around and turned about 2.5 mm off the long one, then machined a packer for the other side, the wheel is now in the center positon

and now the disc brakes lines up

while I was on the lathe, I turned up some spacers for the front fender

still have to polish them up

Well it has taken longer than I like due to having to work the last couple of weekends, but I final got this project finished.

I managed to take the bike for a shake down ride this weekend, and everything is fine, the bigger front wheel have improved the ground clearance a lot in roundabouts, which I am very happy with.

The extra trail and fitting wide western bars make it feel a lot more stable, will have to give it a high speed run to see if it still shakes like the standard setup did.

The narrower rear trye has solved the gaurd clearance problem

The only thing I notice is if givin it a fist full into a corner and shut of quick, it wobbles a little.

SO here are the final photos
