Looking at getting a small swag for my fat bob has anyone tried ockey strapping a oztrail biker swag to the handle bars? I do t exactly have a lot of storage on the bob and I like to travel light so was thinking about a swag I can strap to the risers? At least until I get a sissy bar anyway. Any recommendations on what's a decent swag. I'm 6"4 but I don't get claustraphobic so I think the oz trail is a good bet for now? Any help appreciated cheers

Be careful with small swags if you're tall or large. Go to a camping store and try some out as some of the small swags are too small to be practical for their main purpose.

I don't recommend strapping them to handlebars either. Makes bike handle like shit. Jumper or even a sleeping bag at most but anything heavier is a no no

Most biker swags are to compact for us bigger blokes. I bought one off the net I am not tall but I am a large solid build bloke and I felt cramped in this style swag and I sold it without ever using it and one of the reasons they are so compact is the mattress it is thin and not very wide so not really great for a good night's sleep.

As fatbat said check out some camping stores first, have a good hard look at as many swags as you can, try some of them out for comfort in the store, because it's a big outlay of cash just to find out that the swag you bought does not fit you.

Yea the Oztrail swag is compact enough to strap to the bike easily, but is narrow with a small mattress...not too bad for the under 100kg owner..
Then again, making sure the sleeping bag was wide enough to be comfy was a bigger issue...last one I had musta shrunk ?...ended up using it as
    a blanket.!

Thanks for the advice. Might try lay in one they are supposed to be 75cm wide so it's not huge but is. Wider then my shoulders. Then again it might be a bit of a squeeze. I've got a big double swag I normally use but it's a monster no way will it fit on the bike even if a had a tourer lol. The sleeping bag out of that is pretty comfy tho

Thought of a cheap 2 man tent,,, with a cheap blow up mattress ,,,(better than the shitty foam thing),, with a good sleeping bag .. Roll it all up, and it will fit nicely on any bike with a sissy bar.. Have a large plastic garbage bag to put everything in , if it rains !!! Plenty of room, and privacy, if you have a snooz during the day !!! Just a thought !!!!

Yeah that would be a good option too. Sounds like a sissy bar has just jumped up the list of mods for the bob

When I hitched from Lisbon to Amsterdam, I only had a Tent Fly and a Sleeping bag. The fly I just stuck in the Sleeping bag, bag when I was on the go.
Carried a Torch and a good book and a bottle of port if I could get it. Was fine and 26 years old, hehe.

I've always found swags to be too bulky to be convenient and much preferred a tent - could always look at a tarp and a bivvy if you're keen on saving a lot of spare

I have a travellodge addiction, yes they do cost a little more but are the easiest to get in to and so easy to pack away, the mattress are normally thicker and often heated.
the added convenience is the on board electric supply makes the fridge, kettle and TV run each stay, the hot water is instant and the heating or the cooling is managed by the one aircon, more efficient than a fire or open flap.

having said that, I have a swag, a 2 and 3 man tent, a 10 man tent and a camper trailer.
