Paint Blemish - HELP!

So I took the bike for a spin New Years eve, parked it when I got home and placed the cover on after it had cooled down.  Nothing strange about that and is the norm.

Took the cover off to take to bike to work yesterday and found this white mark on the left side lower/top of my tank.  I grabbed a cloth used some detergent on it to try and remove it but it hasn't done shit.  It has a semi-scratchy feel to it like whatever it is, it has eaten through the wax/clearcoat/paint and maybe all the way to bare metal.

I took some pics of it with my phone and the flash shows it up real well.  I need some urgent advice on what I could try to remove it if it isn't down to the metal.

    Thanks

    Hesh

Sorry to hear that's happenned to you. Does it look better if you wet it? If so, and the colour returns, look on the internet for information on repairs to clear coat. Going to involve systematic sanding with ever finer grades of wet and dry, masking off, spraying clear and polishing back. Should be good as new.

    Doesn't look much different actually.

    What caused it ?

The cover continually rubbing over it in the breeze ?

Is the cover lined? Mine has white fluff underneath - the cheapos have the same scratchy plastic shit on both sides.

It is definitely a scuff mark would have taken longer than overnight for that to happen....
What is all the other rash on tank, looks to me to be worn paint, very thin ....

Thanks for the replies guys.  No, it's not a scuff mark.  In natural light, it appears a lot duller than when highlighted with the flash but it's still noticeable.  The cover I have does indeed have white fluff on the underside and is the same one I have been using for the last 4 and half years since I bought it and is still in top notch condition.    That part of the tank is also not touched by the cover.

The bike is parked underneath my carport, next to the side of the house with the missus car parked beside it.  The area receives low wind due to the highset house next door. The mark when first noticed looked like a white, salty splash of something, for example if you had spilled salt water on something and it had dried out leaving the salty, watermark behind.  Hopefully that describes it well enough.

It just confuses me how and what it is?  It can't be from the road as my leg is in the direct path to that location, but my leg also does not touch the tank....their too fuckin' long.

I will try and take a pic of the mark in natural light, or with a torch shining without a flash to give a better idea of how it looks.

To which other marks/worn paint are you referring too wayne.craft?

Ahh, all the white dots.   That's dust.  As much as I keep the bike covered so that the cover goes all the way to the ground, I cannot for the life of me prevent the dust from next doors bloody decaying leaf shit that comes off their fuckin' trees, degrades and goes underneath the bike.  Shits me off.

    1.  No, it feels as though it has a slightly rough hue to it when you pass your fingernail over the top of it.  Consider a nail file but nowhere near as coarse.

    2.  I can certainly give it a go.  I have never used sand paper on my bike before.

    3.  No, have no idea about any good painters in the area sorry.  Guess I shall have to consult yellow pages.

    Pic without flash.

Ok, no worries.  Will report back once I have purchased the necessary sandpaper.  Might have to take a trip down to Morgan & Wacker and pickup some of that Scratch & Swirl Repair.  Can't see anything else that refers to clear coat so I am guessing that's the right product.

Thanks busted knuckle for the advice.

If not a scuff and it's raised, I would guess from the pic the mark is either dried icecream, or more likely - sunscreen.

Tried a bit of the old K&N wax and grease remover? Almost looks like something stuck on top to me.

Ok, issue appears to be resolved to as best as it can without going down to the paint level.  Looks as though whatever it was, it ate away at the clear coat.  If it was cum, then heaven help the cunt who did it cos he'll be cumin' up his own arse for life if I find him.

Went to a mates place, who's more OCD about paint blemishes than I am, and he had all the wet/dry (2000 grit to be precise), various polishes and cut polishes and I brought along my MRon Glass.

Some light rubbing with the wet paper, several polishes with the cut polish, then the normal polish and eventually the wax.  Below pics show the blemish with the flash on.  In the second pic, it's to the lower of the image as I couldn't see it to take a pic of it properly.

In normal light, you wouldn't know it was there unless you knew where to look......thank FUCK for that!

Thanks for all the assistance guys, really appreciated.
