Protectiveness

    Hey guys,

Just wondering if anyone else is like me with how they treat their Harley. I don't have a garage so my bike sits outside under an all weather cover to protect it but unlike every other bike I've owned (Japanese bikes) I worry about scratches and rust (both with it sitting outside and when I park it away from home) Am I alone in worrying more about the Harley than my other bikes? Or am I just being an anxious nut?

    Cheers,

    Woz

I don't care what brand of bike it is I always treat every bike I own the same way, always clean them well so they always look great. No use having something if you don't look after it.

Not saying I don't take care of my bikes, just that the Harley seems to worry me more so.

Being outside will mean more upkeep as you know but also means the chances of stealing are higher also. How good is your insurance? That may be a Question to. They use to be very desirable to theives but not so much now with the better securty and fob system.
I would be anxious if my bike was outside every night but if you don't have a choice, what can you do?

Yeah, kept my motorbike in a house a few years ago... no more room in the garage... it was a great conversation starter for people who turned up and there sitting in the lounge room was a motorcycle... anyway you could eat your dinner off the thing so it was just like being in a showroom.  It was a new bike so no oil or smells whatsoever.

I think some people thought I was crazy but didn't say anything... as long as your partner goes along with it who cares. As I am in the older age bracket with my kids all grown up and gone my machines get looked after like babies.

    Insurance is good.

No room for anything I'm afraid. We are moving in the next week though to a place that has an undercover 3 sided car space so I figure that's pretty close to a garage. The opening is protected pretty well too.

How much more wear though should I be expecting compared to a Japanese bike? They took it pretty well. My bike is almost a year old now and honestly still looks like new (some small things like bolts are tarnishing but they all apparently do that according to Harley).

Flipdog totally get you mate. It is hard to deal with leaving loved ones outside ;)

I keep mine safely locked in the garage, with a cover over it so dust doesn't get on it or UV rays coming in the window fade anything. I've even had the garage window tinted hahaha. It's never been ridden in the rain since new and it isn't going to anytime soon! It looks like new all the time and that's just how I like it.
