HI everyone,  I am new to this forum  and in the process of buying an 883. This will be my first Harley after a litany of sports bikes , but age has caught up with me  and i ride a little slower these days.  Couple of questions.  I have located in Melbourne  a 2013  883  with a stage 1 system, dynoed  and is fitted with a Vance and Hines  short  system. Is  that system too loud?  Or even legal?  Will I have trouble registering it back in Adelaide?  Will it tour ok  , or do I need to look for a 1200?

Love the look of the 883  and its light enough for my small frame.  Any other words of wisdom will be appreciated  before I make a fnal decision.

Welcome knoffie. A lot upgrade the 883 to 1200 / 1250 cc and there are a lot of happy owners that don't bother. The sporty will tour ok, but can get a bit uncomfortable halfway through the second tank of fuel. Most aftermarket pipes will be too loud for rego check. Good luck with it, hope to see ya out there.

Welcome knoffie, the 883 will serve you well as is. Mine runs all over the Mid North at 110 all day. A set of second hand standard pipes and mufflers sell on gumtree for about $150+ post. Ask the owner he they still have the standard pipes, most keep them for rego.

Hope to catch you on one of the SA rides.

After much thought and riding a new 883 and then a 48 I have decided that Harleys are just not for me. They just seem too heavy and " clunky" I just can't make the switch. It looks like its back to another sports bike.
Thanks everyone for your input it is appreciated.

Some Forum members have given me some good advice so the possibility of buying a Harley is not quite " dead in the water" yet. I might need to ride a couple of other models.
