Hello Everyone
I'm hoping someone will be able to help me in identifying or pointing me in the right direction regarding a High Pitch Vibration/buzzing Tone (Metal tone) on accelleration I have with my Sportster 883 2012. It sounds like its coming from the left side down near the Primary Chain or Clutch area but as we know sounds travel.
I have checked the obvious things like screws, loose parts etc, but its driving me nuts!
Even to eliminate Harmonic Vibrations, I temporarly insterted rubber grommets between the fins but to no avail. Sound still present. (I had a ducati that had harmonic issues, and grommets fixed my issue)
Your advise/assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers.
I had an issue with an aftermarket plate holder that caused the plate to vibrate and made a strange metal noise.
Was not so obvious that it was the plate though as couldn't hear it when stationary and everthing seems to comer from the rear of the bike when riding.
The plate ended up tearing along the bolt hole line and fell off.
Also had an issue with a key ring I was using once on my sporty, it was vibrating onto ignition/frame sometimes.
Hope you find it ok.
Sorry double post,
fat fingers, slow brain.

I have just about reached 8000km and booked in for a service. While I continue to investigate I'm going to ask the Service Agent to pull the Primary/Clutch case off and check everything, see what he turns up.
Hay StinkFinger (Cool name!)
Already running 98 Octaine but will investigate colder spark plugs.
Thanks for all the replies guys. Greatly Appreciated. Still on the hunt for the issue/sound
Going to invest in a torgue wrench and check all the bolts around the bike. Already found a loose bolt on the handlebar and used lock tight on the crankcase beather bolts which continued to unscrew and hit the back of the air filter.
I'm booked in for a service in two weeks so will wait to see what they have to say. In the mean time, I'm using mouldable ear plugs. No more high pitch sound No more loud Harley sound
Any who, just a quick status update until my service.
Oh, just purchased some Screaming Eagle Tuner cables (miss placed) to check the mapping. Should be able to check it out mid next week before the service. I'm assuming it was done, but you never know what settings they used.
Cheers guys. Ill be in touch
Hello Guys
Well I had my 8,000km Service and had the machanics focus on the High Pitch Vibration Tone (ringing on acceleration) and was advised that it was the Primary Chain. While it has been adjusted, the noise is still there but I have noticed that it has settled down over these past few weeks with all the commuting I have been doing. looks like Ill just have to accept it as "the sound the bike makes" and continue to wear my ear plugs (Which I prefere anyway becase of the open face helmet - wind).
One thing I did do leading up to the service and now very happy with the performance is reflash the ECU with the provided Screaming Eagle Tuner Pro. I flashed the SE Heavy Breather and Race Exhausts profile and tuned the Cylinders (RPM vs Throttle) over several test rides and recordings. I had this quite excessive vibration in second gear at 50-60kph, now everything is smooth and the power feels much more responsive.
In about 6-12 months ill be looking at a 1200 upgrade so may investigate the primary chain again at this stage. If anything comes to light over this "Sound" ill keep you all and this thread posted.
Thanks for your imput guys, greatly appreciated.
