To Hypercharger or not, that is the question.

Running an '09 Night Train with regular stage 1 air filter setup. But with regular oval cover I cant imagine that much air getting in. I have been considering the Hypercharger and have done a search and read up on them. Whilst I know plenty yay sayers and no sayers, I would like to hear from people that have first hand experience with them.

My first choice was to go for the Pro R 9322 as per pic...

However I note they are wider then the standard and that worries me a bit, looking too bulky and leg restricting. Tho they are purported to be the best Hypercharger that have made to date.

The Standard model 9754 with the Stinger Trap Door 8498 is a bit narrower and perhaps sexier looking as per pic...

Priced similar at $365 & $355 for the stinger look.

What pearls of wisdom might you have on these units? (Yea I know big suckers may be better performing but am enquiring on these kind of units). Comments welcomed.

Your regular oval cover WITH a breather kit and good K&N will make better power than the flappercharger. If the engine is going to stay stock, there is not much in it, but if over 80 odd hp the H C is holding you back. If thats the look you want go for it,form over function.

Lushy what do you recommend for an 80 or 100+ hp motor?

There are a number of good high flowing air filters, the forward facing SE one is good, the Stock tin cover with the wider K&N is good. There are stacks of different filters. Rule of thumb from my cynical mind is, if it moves or has a skull on it , it's probably no good. :-) The larger the surface area of the actual filter medium, the more air it will flow. If the design of the housing allows ingress of cool air thats better too. Air is the only thing you will ever get for free, get as much as you can, an engine is just an air pump. The more it gets the more power it makes.

They are eye candy for the great unwashed who point and ask questions. They do filter the air and do it better than the stock unit but they are BLING, not GO FAST.
I have one on mine but its not permanent. Your question is a bit like asking what type of bars you should put on your bike. Simple answer, it's your bike, dress it the way YOU want it.

it looks like the consensus is that its just a wank....and who pays $350 for a wank? maybe for bling but not wank.

Volvi I've got one and will sell it to you if you want. All this wank talk about them has upset me. Just joking - I needed to upgrade my air filter anyway as I've gone to a 107 top end and headwork/throttlebody is next. I thought a bigger air cleaner might benefit my build but lushy confirmed it by suggesting a bigger/better air cleaner should be used for an engine making over 80hp. Upgraded my exhaust for the same reason.

+1 on the V&H pipes as well.

EVERY damn Harley seems to run them (those Big Radius pipes are right up there with the Hypercharger!)

I recon its all a matter of personal preference...Oddly enough i like the old style S&S teardrop so plan to fit one to my new bike.

Dynoharley, if it did 126 with a hypercharger, imagine what would happen if you changed to a better filter. I had a Harley tech in her a few yaers back with a hot 95 cube, we ran it on the dyno and then I made him change the filter from a Hyp to the larger Arlen Ness heavy breather kit. NO OTHER changes at all, just unbolt and bolt on, then retest the bike. 5.5hp just like that, then more with a tune.....

Get the heavy duty or top of the range K&N kit, the complete kit not just the airfilter. It will out flow everything else.

Been playing with my Hyper Charger, I wanted a bit more filtered surface area to allow more air in when needed. This is what I have come up with, i think it looks good and increases the surface area by over a 50%
