    Hi All,

Looking at purchasing my first HD in the next month or so and came here for advice and to post questions.

Being 6'6", it's a little hard to just buy something off the rack! Any recommendations as to what I should be looking at?

Hoping to spend $12K and keep the Mrs happy... (it's a difficult juggling act)

    Thanks <img src=" border="0" src="/DesktopModules/NTForums/themes/_default/emoticons/smile.gif" />

Hi mate and welcome. With your budget of $12k if you want anything newish you'd be limited to a sporty. And with your height you'd feel and look like an orangutang rooting a rabbit. Look for an old evo big twin. Most are over $12k but you could get lucky. Otherwise look at jap cruisers.

Welcome, you could go to your local HD dealer sit on a few different bikes and see which one appeals to you. Once you found something you like you have a starting point and all you need to do then is look for an older model that suits your budget. Good luck with the hunt...... then let us know what you found.

    Thanks guys.

I thought I might be dreaming and am now looking up to $15K.

Seems to be a few around and Sporties are definitely too small which is a shame!!

    Let the hunt continue!!

    Welcome.

As Youngblood suggested, you'll have to work your way backwards from a new model to an older model and style. At your height you're going to need a large model, and plenty of leg room for longer rides. With your budget you won't have any wriggle room for alterations if you get it wrong. In essence they may look large, but they have a low seat height.

Research is your best friend on the net, magazines, and dealers. Also some HOG members may advertise on the club notice board in the shop. Conversely you could place a wanted notice with the HOG chapters. Make it known what you are looking for and price range.

There's always a deal to be had, so be patient.

    Welcome

I'm 6'7 and ride a Dyna with forward controls. I do about 160km a day with this setup.

You could pick up an older TC dyna for close to your budget but also factor in forward controls, a seat that places you further back and higher bars if not already fitted.

I also go ok on Heritage softails with the pillion seat removed.
