hi guys long time no post, had to sell my Harley 18 months ago but am back in the market. Anyway a mate has a 12/98 dyna superglide low rider 1450 that he wants out of and I can get it at a great price. The problem is that the bike won't engage first gear, it grinds and grinds and won't slip in sometime if the timing is right it will but it usually won't. The funny thing is it will find neutral and if I take off in second it is smooth through all the other gears just not going into first. If you can get it in it seems to change into second no worries.
Bike has 45km with cams and little bit of work, do you think clutch or gearbox rebuild ?
With the motor not running can you select 1st?
if you can with out the motor going it would be the clutch, also check that you have the same amount of gearlever play up & down in 3rd with the engine off because thats were the adjustment is made in 3rdthe take up in the lever should be the same up & down its in the manual
