    Howdy folks,

Ive got a 2011 Softail Standard.Box stock transmission and drive pulleys.I was going through some stuff in the owners manual earlier last night and thought this was a bit strange......

Here they state recommended shift speeds are as follows....

    First to Second        25 km/h (15 mph)

    Second to Third       40 km/h  (25mph)

    Third to fourth          55 km/h  (35mph)

    Fourth to fifth           70 km/h  (45mph)

    Fifth to sixth            85 km/h  (55mph)

I dunno about you blokes, but cruising around town doing 60-65kmh im usually still in third gear.I dont go in to 4th gear till im doing roughly 75-80 km/h.

I never like to ride my bike hard, but these recommendations would be labouring the crap out of my engine.

I know no one probably gives a shit, but I just thought it was interesting to see what the manual had to say.........

85Ks is way to early to go to 6th gear. good way to fuck ya bike lugging it like that continuously, dont give a fuck what any manual says.

Dont know bout the other gear changes , never takin any notice. Go by feel

When I picked up my Fatbob the dealer recommended I keep the revs over 2000 to save the bike working too hard. At your recommended gear shift speeds you probably aren't getting to 2000 rpm before changing. Sounds like a fucking boring way to ride...

It's the shifting points for maximum fuel economy and minimum fun. Go USA!!
