General ADR vs Local design regs

Few things Id like to do to my bike, but being my only day to day transport I need to keep it within legal and legit lines, The official ADR stuff is very hard to get hold of, Ive found the vicroads guidelines as to what is legal.. but man theyre pretty loose and free and easy..

As an example, they specify 2 mirrors must be fitted.. ok thats nice, but other states specify a minimum of 94mm per mirror..

Headlights, the vicroads one specifies you need a headlight, im 99.9% sure ADR specifies a white headlight

Vicroads makes no mention of number plates.. again.. 99.9% sure ADR specifies 45' viewable angle

Interestingly Vicroads specifies indicators and tailight must be a minimum of 350mm from the ground, that means you can legally mount them off the lower shock mounts.

yes...but indicators must be 20cm apart so that makes all those tail-light units that incorporate brake/indicator illegal - in theory.

    or 300mm in victoria..
Its a freakin mess, ADR vs State regs.. I'd suspect ADR superceeds all, but yeah thats my point.. messy

I've always found if I'm not overly obvious in my changes the cops aren't overly aggressive with their scrutiny - which basically means the cooler you want your bike to look the more chance you're going to get rolled for it. Seems cops can challenge most changes if they want, then it's up to you to prove its legal.

Bonkerz, I'd have to go along with you. I'm fairly standard (bike as well) on a black Street Glide except for exhaust, so I don't stand out like some or riders or bikes. I've not had any problems so far.

But then again, I may just have been lucky.
