rear guard laws

    does anyone know when the change to the rear mud guard extention laws take effect ? ive just finnished a 1200 sporty cafe racer for a bloke and it only uses the seat as a rear guard as ive built the rear tail light into the seat hump . thanks triumph68

    I'm pretty sure the laws will only mean that little bit of black plastic on the back of modern sporty's isn't required, the rest still is.

    That amendment came into effect in September/14. I think dkNigs may be correct, but it may be up to the interpretation of the law by the person testing your vehicle for RWC, or ADR compliance (or the cop who pulls you over and ruins your ride). From my research it appears that most states have similar rules to the ADR: protection from wheel for rider and pillion, tyre width coverage and protection for other road users from crap you flick up. I think to comply with the third point (crap you flick up) the guard/body fittings have to cover a certain range (40°) with a 45kg load. Also, if you get a RWC with the guard on and then remove it within the RWC currency, it is an offence.
    Anyway, just my two cents worth and I'm sure there are more qualified users on here (guys who build up ICVs) who know more than I do.
