    Hi everyone

I'm seeking assistance regarding my sporty....I recently did a 3 week trip around nsw...when I arrived home I parked her in the garage for a 2 weeks...to cut a long story short I went to go for a run yesterday & she will not start (battery is fully charged)....I think it maybe the battery in the fob, that I will b replacing...but just in case it's not the fob, does any one have any idea of what may cause this before I take her to be seen by my harley guy

    Thanking you,

    regards rose

Hi Rose, you're onto it, If the fob battery hasn't been replaced in the last twelve to eighteen months that would be the first thing to do.

Doesn't sound like your bike has security otherwise a dead fob battery would cause it to activate when you tried to start up.

If that first step doesn't make any difference then you gotta look at three main things, spark, fuel, and compression, all of which are required for motor to start and run.

One could assume that the compression was relatively OK seeing as you were riding it and it was running OK before you parked up.

Check fuel,,,,, then if fuel is OK check to see if there is spark at the spark plugs.

If you're still looking after that, it would pay to come back and let us all know what year model your bike is, and if it's carby or EFI.

    Good Luck

    Hi rider

thank you for the response...she's a 2009 custom fuel injected...it's been around 18 months since I replaced the battery, which is why I was leaning in that direction..if the fob is not the problem I will repost

Thanking you for your advice/details as it's much appreciated

    regards

Make sure you get the right battery - they look the same but are different voltages. Get the same numbers as the battery you're removing.

Does it turn over when you try to start it? I doubt the fob is the problem if it does. If it is a fob issue, and Providing you know the security code you may be able to start it without the fob. May be worth a look anyway

same as the others posters have mention above.

    Start with the FOB, then

    Fuel
    Air
    Spark
    Timing
    (Fast)

    Good Luck

Things I found out about by sporty.

Any problems with not firing or cutting out check your ignition coil... connections can be loose.

Also battery connections can vibrate loose... tighten them up
