Changing stock HD from master brake cylinder

    Hey guys,

Just thinking aloud here, but do you think it would be possible to change the front master brake fluid cylinder mounted on the bars, for say a smaller, less cumbersome reservior, as long as it fits a 1" bar?

..or would it create issues being a smaller reservoir that won't push enough brake fluid down the line to close the brake calipers?

That's no problem , it's the piston size that contols pressure not the size of the reservoir , it's just a container .

If you use a smaller reservoir, you might need to keep a closer eye on how much fluid is in there as the pads wear down.

I'm definitely no expert, but I think that as the pads wear and the caliper piston moves toward the disk, that space will be taken up by extra fluid.

I've often wondered why the front brake lever couldn't just pull a cable that actuated a master cylinder down on the frame somewhere, rather that have it stuck up on the bars...

It can I've seen it done on customs , I think there is a classic bike which also uses that system

    Thanks for the advice guys.

That'd be a much better way to clean up the bars.  But I guess they leave it on the bars, as its gravity fed, so the higher the better may be their thinking. Plus, a cable that operates a reservoir further down may be more room for error. Not to mention higher manufacturing costs.

I have an Iron 883, so I'm well aware of lowering production costs...hahha
