Fitted a cruise control to my fatbob

I have fitted a OEM Harley cruise control module to my 2014 Fatbob.

The cruise unit is off a pre fly-by-wire Harley Touring model and I fitted it to a home-made bracket where the horn cowbell normally attaches.  The wiring required connects to power, earth and brake light active under the seat and connects to the rear tail-light wiring.  The speed and engine sensors are connected at the ECU. And I have push-button switches on the handlebars for on/off, and set/resume which also work for acces/decel when the cruise is active.

The bracket to mount the unit was made by my brother and we made it so a factory round air cleaner bolts over the top which gives the whole thing a really neat finish.

It works great and the only problem I had was the common problem of too sensitive front brake switch activation which cancels the cruise.  I added a few pieces of elec tape to the brake lever affectively making it a little fatter at the switch and making the brake switch a little less sensitive.

Other than that it all works fine and I can say after a 1,000 Km weekend it is worth it.  A great mod.

I have fitted the horn to the front of the bike but havent wired it up yet but this is a small thing and I will get onto it soon enough and all will be sorted and legal.

Work in progress.  temporary mount to run wiring and throttle actuator and test out the unit.

Mount made by my very clever brother.

And with the cover on.  Doesnt look out of place and works great.

The switches are neat and easy to find and use.

And the whole thing doesnt look out of place on the bike.

To connect power, brake, earth, speed sensor and engine sensor I tapped into the exisiting wiring using posi-tap connectors.

I havent used these before I took on this project.  They were easy to use and worked well.  I would recomend these types of connectors if you were adding onto or tapping into wiring for whatever.

Nice job, people will think you have twin throttle bodies !

I guess it's a personal choice, but I never did get the point of cruise control on a bike.
I rode around most of Australia on a bike fitted with cruise, and really never used it.
