So I picked up my new 14 Wide Glide and am in love.  Kif  (Keef) is her name as she is styled Moroccan Gold.  Have had a blast having traded up from Sally my 13 Iron(Hope your new home is a good one baby)  and now she's in to HH Adelaide this coming week for her first service.  I have a confession to make so please sit down. Having had the Iron with some V&H slip ons for a year or more with an awesome roar (also Fuelpak and heavy breather air whilst we are on the subject..)  I've actually enjoyed riding Kif with the stock exhausts in. There- I said it- my confession hence the title of this post.....What I do miss is the sound but not the roar or the ringing in my ears...Its odd riding and having conversations with the pillion without mikes or other add on-need to nip that expactation in the bud sharpish...

But there comes a time in every boys life when he has to take that big step hence me putting it out there. What combinations have people tried and succeeded with that 1. Doesn't kill but enhances the bikes performance  2.  Gets the noise right but doesn't rattle the skull bones and attract the filth  3. Comes in complete around 2k (about what I can slip past the missus without a year in the dog house. Happy to roll up my sleeves and install- I've plenty of hammers in the shed, know I need a Dyno tune (any really good ones in Adelaide area?) 4. And don't look dog ugly..   I'd be out riding today if the weather wasn't crap- if you are in the same boat I'd appreciate some Norman (Wisdom)!

Better yet get a supertrapp supermeg 2-1 pipe. One of the best performing pipes available and very subtle especially with the closed end cap on.

A friend of mine has just spent big bucks on a 48 Sporty. Try as they might, with all the new performance parts the local dealers just cant get the thing running correctly.

My advice is not to fuck around with people who aren't entirely proficient, and are more suited to selling/maintaining standard and stock equipment.

For dyno tuning in Adelaide, the person reputedly the best in the business is Neville Lush (Lush Racing) at Victor Harbour: http://www.lush-racing.com/

Take the trip, spend the bucks, get input from someone with experience and know-how, and it will save you returning again and again trying to get the performance you should have attained the first time on the dyno.

howdy mate, recently installed the Screamin Eagle Dual Shorty STREET PERFORMANCE slip on mufflers to replace V&H big radius on my 96ci      (i personally loved em but the law didnt) at first they were a little quite not much louder than stock i thought (though they do extend farther toward the back of the bike-not exit below my shoulder like the BRs) but after about 500ks or so they have for sure gotten alot deeper in note and probably will continue to do so over time and actually dont have a bad sound- pretty good in fact. Definately that Harley sound we love without being over the top, they have Harley Davidson stampings on them as well (not screamin eagle "off road use only" like the older version), this way the LAW MAN wont be able to hassle you as having "aftermarket" or "modified" exhaust system as your cross-over emission control pipe is still fitted which is another plus for avoiding sceptical coppers that wanna fuck your day.. Cost me $520 new, definately far-far better sounding than stock, you can at least hear them and feel the rumble. i actually dont mind em now im used to them. Addresses your points 1 and 2 perfectly and will install in 10-20 mins. Peice'o'piss bro..... Hope this helps man ..Regards FLIPDOG

Mate, I think your manhood is in question for the names you give your bikes not from your choice of exhaust.
On another note, I have 2-1 Bassani that looks and sounds great, rides nice and isnt too rude in the noise department.

keep in mind man that if you go with full aftermarket exhaust and maybe a SE heavy breather or similar A/C you will have to also purchase and have installed a fuel pack tuner. various types available, extra expense, so dont overlook this factor in your budget strategy...Regards FLIPDOG

I run V&H big shots with quiet baffles

Stupidly loud pipes (like short shorts) just piss wveryone off.

Mine are loud when I want to turn on the throttle but quiet when I want to creep through the burbs or past the constabulary

I bought my pipes on ebay.  Cost under a grand including delivery.  then a high flow air cleaner ($200) and a tuner.  I use the V&H Fuelpak3. Tune it yourself and autotune to fine tune. (around $350).  So all up around 1500 for stage 1 upgrade.  And most people will be able to do all the work themselves.

Yeah +1 for the fp3 fuelpack. Also if you decide you miss the noise and change pipes you can just change the map on your bike. They are a great tuner if your on the new canbus system.

Haha, Glad I read this. I too just upgraded from a Iron to a Dyna. I got the Street Bob special. I have only done 660kms (maybe more later today) and am enjoying the peace and quite of stock pipes. I had Screaming Eagle Slipons and a K&N filter (back removed from original Air filter cover) and a Screaming Eagle Pro tuner on the Iron. I want to run the new bike in until the second service (1600 km + 8000km) before I decide on what to change. I will probably do the same again as I did on the Iron. I will not bother with a Dyno tune as a few % more HP does not bother me, The 103 engine is twice as powerful as the Iron anyway. I am enjoying the quiet ness as it lets me warm up the bike up early in the morning (2 - 4mins in the driveway) without annoying my neighbours. Also it is much better when you are hungover (often) on the weekend. Ride with your mates and you get free noise as they will all have modified stuff. Although I do admit that It is hard to turn up for a ride with a unmodified exhaust, that is probably why you upgraded from a Sportster to a Dyna in the first place, to get to the big league,. I wonder if I will last until the second service before new exhaust etc. Please let us know what you do and at how many kms of the clock you do it. The Police over here is WA don't seem to care how noisy your bike is, but as Perth grows that may change.
