Chain joining links

Does anyone know of a thread on the forum, on the art of using a rivet joining link. Mate is fitting up a new chain and has been supplied with a rivet type link instead of the traditional clip link. To me the rivet idea is a piece of puss, surely there is a risk of destroying the o rings and eventually the chain. Or if not done correctly wouldnt it come apart easier? Is there a special tool that folds the rivet studs over to the right level. Or should he just go and buy a traditional link (cos thats what I would do) All help appreciated. Cheers Burnzi

burnzi buy a joining link at least if you need you can remove chain in the future, you would need to use correct tool for rivet link i would not risk using a hammer and risk causing the link to jam up,only my humble opinion.yes

Burnzi , like a few have said buy a joining link then use silicon on the clip to help stop it coming off. the joining link will always be a weak link in the chain.
