ive been noticing  a lot of people bagging out Harley's , saying how much Harley's suck the the whole outdated or handling crap thing.

i don't understand why there is so much Harley hate. I mean is it jealousy? What do you guys think ? Why is there so much harley hate?

Who gives a shit what others think. I went riding today with a mixed bag of about a dozen riders including a lovely lady on a scooter. No one was bagging Harley's (except for spook who only likes red ones) and I didn't feel superior or inferior to anyone there. Why even ask the question, and on an HD forum?

    It's envy.

You get a mixed bunch of bikes out on a run, when you line up at the pub, it's the Harley's that get the attention from the onlookers.

As a wise man once told me "don't knock it unless you've tried it". In most instances the person has never ridden a Harley, but only dreamed of owning one.

    Let them

I don't care what anyone thinks about my bike. I've done 10 times the miles and had next to no problems in comparison to friends with jap & euro bikes.

    a) because they wish to contemptuously display a complete lack of respect for you, by openly running your bike down in front of you
    b) because they would like the opportunity to experience eating corn on the cob WITH NO FUCKING TEETH
    c) because they own one

THERE ARE NO OTHER CORRECT ANSWERS

I'll be honest I own jap bikes and a harley the jap bike i own is a year older then the harley it handles heaps better is smoother to ride has twice the hp stock .
But in saying that there are a lot of crap jap bikes i recall buying an xs650 once rode it down the street and laughed at what a slug it was.
I was told by a lot of people not to buy a harley before i did But i am an ignorant fucker that likes a challenge and improving the harley is just that and the aftermarket and custom parts availability is never ending .

they bag them because they don't understand them.. the way the motor produces torque and doesn't need to rev at a squillion miles per hour to get anywhere for a start..

i still hear jokes about harleys that are more than 20 yrs old, usually told by a dick that knows SFA about bikes in the 1st place...

    fuck 'em anyway

A few Jap bike mates bag them as well and mostly reakon that Harley's are not good value for money when you compare what other bike options are available in the new bike market. I.e for $15,500 I can buy a new GSXR1000 do 300km/h in 10 seconds and go race in the Australian superbike class if your good enough. That's about the same performance as $500,000 Porsche. A $15,000 Harley would have similar performance to modern day farm Tractor.

Most Jap or euro bikes will out accelerate, out corner and out perform any Harley. BUT who cares! The enjoyment I get from a Harley cannot be measured in power or seconds. With a Harley it's all about enjoying the ride!

Probably because they've never owned one long-term.

It's their own insecurities, they need to make themselves feel good by putting everyone or everything else down around them.  I see them a lot at the lights, needing to show off by trying to drag me and when I don't respond to them they thrash the f*#k out of their bikes and leave me in a cloud of their petrol and exhaust fumes. Most of the time at the next set of lights I pull up next to them give them a little smile and think to myself "here we are again right next to each other".
Most Harley's are cruisers and the performance to match that class, where reliability is the most important factor. A sports bike is about racing not cruising and the performance to match that class. A stock sports bike motor is already highly modified by the factory and you will not get a lot more out of them when modifying them further but a Harley motor is a sleeping beast where enormous horsepower gains are possible that is why most drag bikes have Harley motors not Jap motors in them.
I have owned Jap bikes (and enjoyed them) and now have a Harley and while the Harley is slow in comparison I don't care because my Harley gives me the biggest smile every time I swing my leg over it.  I like what I like and don't give a toss what other people think and if the criticise me for what I ride than they are just f*#king losers,

probably like most guys on here I've owned or ridden a few different makes and styles of bikes over the years from trailies to sports bikes to cruisers. Owned a Honda Shadow for a while - beautiful bike BUT as boring as bats piss to ride. Up until a mate bought an evo softail and gave me a ride I thought they were pieces of crap too, fuck I had so much fun riding that thing I nagged the missus for a year until I got one. Mines a 94 Fatboy, I know there are technically heaps better bikes out there BUT after owning and riding this thing for the last few years it still puts a smile on my dial everytime I ride it :)

It always amuses me the fuktards on Sportsbikes that don't acknowledge Harley riders - I'll happily nod to anyone on any type of bike.

    cheers

Going back through all the responses above,

its no wonder the sporty gets bagged out all the time

    Envy,
    lack of respect,
    dont understand,
    never owned one,
    there own insecurities.

    Now it makes sense.

What is it they say, if you have to ask you wouldn't understand. Envy would be the biggest I reckon. I went on a ride the other day where there were only 2 Harleys. One of the female passengers got off at one of our stops and took 1 photo, it was my Harley. Says it all doesn't it?

I have owned jap bikes and quite a few Harleys.   Riding a jappa was just ok but I fall in love riding Harley because they have soul, something a non Harley rider will never understand need I say anymore.  So next time you hear someone bag out a Harley just smile because they are the ones who are really missing out on the true feeling's of what riding a bike is all about.
