Why do so many people bag out Harley's?

Speaking of Triumph, I bought a 2007 Bonneviile Speedmaster which has the all the charm and the retro look we all love. Gotta say, it's bloody fantastic. On another note, ride what you love, and love what you ride. If anyone bags your ride, tell them to piss off!

you ride what YOU choose to ride, not what others tell you to ride. Mainly it's jealousy and stereotyping that breeds the negative....and notice that's predominantly from those who have no idea and no bike themselves.

as my Dad used to say, ..."the best beer is the one you have in your hand".

It’s human nature unfortunately (not the band).

Comments I got from past bikes,
TRX850 – why did you buy a fake ducati?
    Zx-10r – you’ll die a horrible fiery death!
Fireblade – boring, you should have got a zx-10r.
    Forty-Eight – you’re a hipster fag…
Fatboy – you bought a inbred grandpa bike built for chap wearing, soft, fat old men?

    Can’t win.

I rode jap bikes for years and got bagged by Harley riders (and bagged them back ) but it didn't worry me a fuck. now I ride a Harley and get bagged by jap riders and it still doesn't worry me a fuck. the moral of the story is who gives a fuck?

Never been bagged out about my Harley. As a matter of fact, get a lot of "Nice Bike mate" statements.
Its a Skinny EVO Big Twin.

My Suzuki LC, some people say nice Harley. I'm quik to correct them. Its a Jap cruiser, thats all.
Never been bagged out about that either.

Because they are trying to divert attention from their small winkies?

OK, I'll try to get serious for once!

I rode Jap sports tourers for most of my life (GPZ900, FJ1100, etc) because for me a bike was something to lay on, to tuck down behind the fairing and boogie. I wanted to go fast and get to places in a hurry. plus I had an 88km trip each way to and from work each day come rain or shine, so I clocked up some miles (around 1000k's per week).

At this time I lived in the country, and many of my friends rode Harleys. They bagged me for my boy racer, and I bagged them for their slow old cruisers, telling them I'd see them at the pub when they finally got there.

For the best part this was all just good natured and friendly ribbing. Their bikes suited them and their riding style, while my bikes suited me and my riding style.

The test of time finally caught up with me though. I'm getting older, my knees were giving me endless grief from the hunched riding position, and travelling any more than about 100k's in a session was becoming a chore rather than a pleasure.

In the old days traffic was much lighter, and traffic cops were few and far between, so cruising along at 180-200 kph wasn't really a problem.

Then I also took a few spills. Some were beyond my control caused by other motorists, some were my own ego outweighing my ability or my own stupidity, and I consider myself pretty lucky to have come through it all still in one piece.

About 10 yearsor so back I gave bikes away for good. I was just getting too old for it, the roads had become too dangerous, the laws too strict, the body too sore..............but I've always regretted parting with my bike, and I miss those days of attending rallies and of just packing up the bike and riding with no set destination.

Recently I sold my boat, and it was the wifes suggestion that I think about another bike, so I jumped at the chance to get back into the saddle for awhile.

I'm not a boy racer anymore though. I want a bit more comfort, I'm a poser who wants to head out on a sunny day, at a leisurely pace, and maybe I've turned into something of a softcock, but I wanna stay alive and enjoy the ride these days instead of just getting there at warp speed. I dont enjoy riding in the rain and cold anymore, or screaming through the mid winter hours of darkness to get to work in the morning,

A Harley seemed perfect for my current cruising and sightseeing needs, and being old school myself, I opted for an old classic FXR instead of a new bike.

I love the thing, it suits me down to the ground, now I bag out the Jap bikes!

It's just horses for courses, everyone wants to think their own bike is the best, and it's fun to take the piss out of others. Friendly rivalry and competitivness is par for the course, so it's all give as much as you take, and water off a ducks back, before having a drink together.

If anyone ever wants to seriously bag a bike though, and oversteps the mark, then they better have once owned the bike they are bagging to be providing first hand experience, or they should expect a smack in the mouth for being a loud mouthed prick with no idea and no respect! SIMPLES!

I dont give a fuck what anyone chooses to ride. Are you happy with it, is it reliable, does it fit the intended purpose? Then it's the bike for you, you should enjoy it, and don't let any fucker bag you out for riding it! Friendly ribbing and rivalry is to be expected though, so just deal, with that unless you're something of a little princess! In which case, maybe a Prius would suit you better.

May I confess that in my intervening 25 years after my friend nearly totalled himself on my yammy RD 250LC pocket rocket and I stopped riding, while I have never openly bagged Harley's I couldn't understand the point of having a bike which looked so agricultural and was powered by an industrial air pump. All that changed when I turned 50 and had my MLC. I just looked at them through different eyes and had to have one. The rest has been a splendid love affair with the bike and the road and the friendships and experiences I have had with like minded Harley and non Harley bike riders.

Each ride is different... My Harley is nothing like my new jap sports tourer, but I like them both for different reasons.  People will always bag things and especially if it is a big name like Harley.  It human nature...Now if you're after a nice smooth ride, then my Harley is not for you, but I like it... I love the thumping, vibrating feel as I ride down the freeway... and people always comment favourably on my Harley when I take it out for a ride... Now, if I want to go on a very long trip, then the jap sports tourer does the job perfectly... it's quiet as... silky smooth... and plenty of hp , but not many will say; 'gee that's a great looking bike'... I am fortunate to have both bikes and I wouldn't part with either one of them.

my first harley was an XLCH iron head piece of shit. then got a AMF shovel it turned out to be a bigger piece of shit . ive had a FXR evo for 20 years now and its been great to ride and repair . people call harleys a piece of shit because for a long time they where , forget these wankers that say they have soul and all the inward looking shit when your on the side of the road pushing the cunt i can rest asure you it aint got a soul and a tour around the harley factory just shows its a money makeing company . why cant people acept a harley for what it is an expensive toy and i wouldnt trade mine for the world it makes no sence at all . DOES IT HAVE TO ? ? ?

Ask anybody who has one living in their neighbourhood, or lives near a road that bike riders frequent. Run a poll on this site and see how many owners have loud exhaust pipes. That is one reason people "bag out Harleys".
