Nissin brake upfront on Fatboy

Hi all, i'm new to the forum and have a question that some of you could possibly help with.

i've got 09 Fatty, as you would know Softails have rather poor brakes and have been gathering options on brake upgrades.

Anyone done an upgarde using a Nissin calliper from a Harley XR1200 up-front, supposedly the braking is improved quite radically when coupled with a floating disc..?

This calliper is a straight bolt on and works great, can someone comment..

Having both an XR1200 and a fatBob with 16" wheels. I measured them up roughly and concluded that the Caliper would run too close to rim. If it does fit it would be tight. The Nissin caliper is pretty big compared to stock.

thanks for the info mate, im going to check with the Harley dealer and keep digging, my concern is that if this is a good mod i would think there would be people out there who would have already done this

I've just put floating disc's and a PM 6 piston caliper along with the PM 4 piston on the rear. This improved the braking so much so that it felt like the front suspension was diving.

Having Progressive's on the rear already I matched that at the front using the Mono Cartridge Progressive's, massive improvement over stock. Still not anywhere near a Jap bikes handling and braking but for a Softail it now handles and stops well.

The other way is to go with the Brembo conversion.

It can be a bit of a crap shoot when it comes to caliper selection. I have an older FXR with spoke wheel and there are bugger all calipers that will actualy fit without hitting the spokes.

ther thing to watch out for is to not buy calipers that are used on anti-lock brake bikes. They have an odd setup with their pistons etc.

Don't forget about the factory Brembo conversion with the 300mm discs. On my Dyna I'm using twin discs and Brembo MC, but it can be done with a single.

Generally just two finger braking, this is a serious performance upgrade.

So is there a brake upgrade for the fatbob with twin disks and abs. The standard brakes pull it up ok but start fading pretty quickly. Nearly pulling the lever all the way to grips yesterday and brakes did not start working until lever was half way in.

Well that's strange I nevered bothered getting the brembos for the bob cause very happy with them.

I do suggest changing to lyndal gold pads though, made a big diffrence
