I have a 2005 Annervisary Fatboy with the 1550 upgrade engine from factory. The bike is nearing 200,000klms and time to consider my options. I have already done suspension and brakes. I have S&E heavy air filter, S&E racing tuner, S&E pipes ready for increase in horsepower etc.. I'm after 100plus at rear wheel of torque and HP and the engine has to be reliable and user friendly not to mention good for another 200,000klms plus. With this in mind the engine builder has recommended split the case and ground up rebuild with S&S componants, including cam sprockets, replace heads with S&S heads and a 2into one pipe, use the S&Eracing tuner, mild Cams, not sure if they replace the adjustable push rods already in place. i"m sure they would. Can the same results be achieved with S&E upgrade? It appears a crate engine won't match up as the spleen on these mobiles are different. I have a heavy duty spring for clutch already which i"m told will be enought at the momont and the 5 speed box appears in good order. The price for all this fashion and fame or should i say Torque and horsepwer from S&S and S&E appears to be around the same money, 10k,. I like the sound of the S&S bebuild and the advice and mechanic are very proffesional. Any words of wisdom would be appreciated in the dark art of engine rebuilds, Wozza.

Yes, thanks for the feedback. A new bike is always an option, however my current bike handles well, drifts well, stops well, go's like stink and it's got those gold badges that made it just a little different. If i can get a good, reliable build with 100hp and 100torque at the rear for a better price, well that would be food for thought. I can import all the parts which would save a bit, it's the getting the right person to build it and would they be happy to build it with the parts i got imported.

I just dynoed one of Hoods 95's at 115 rw hp. It was a cracker. 100 is a walk in the park.

Another thing to factor in , is your driveline age.......... parts like clutch/primary chain/compensator.
If you bump up the engine output, you may be up for a gearbox rebuild as well.
Not trying to be negative, but I know I wouldn't be happy only upgrading one link in the chain.

Yep, the gear box on these modiles are good for the upgrade and the box is in good condition. The primary chain tensioner will be replaced with S&S sprocket drive and I have the heavy duty spring in place for clutch. Will allow for clutch upgrade..

Thanks for the tip on Fred from Pro Cycles dyno, I had a chat with him yesterday. Keen to help, suggested 130 horsepower at rear wheel was very easy to achieve and the price would be more user friendly. So thanks again, it's nice to know thinks can work out better than you expect. i will keep the site posted. cheers..
