    folks

my '91 FXR has developed a strange habit of occasionally being utterly responseless when hitting the starter button. no click, nothing. power is there (lights). after the (perceived) 29th attempt some ten minutes later (I don't even check for loose cables or the like anymore) it will suddenly start as if nothing had happened. I've never had this when I took it out of my shed but only when parked in direct sun for some time (could be complete coincidence obviously).

busted starter button? solenoid? Again, I do nothing, absolutely nothing and in the end it will just go (for now at least...). Enormously annoying inconvenience- any thoughts on how to fix this/ where to look?

    cheers...

I had a fat boy do this same thing and turned out to be the starter button.
But I have a mate who this happen to and was a bad contact on the start wire on the solenoid.

just check all connections in the start circuit first and all should be revealed.

put a manual starter button on the solonoid it might help as I had the same problem on my 96 dyna.
Later had the starter checked and solonoid contacts were about rooted

Could also be the relay (its behind the right side cover on my 86 FXR)
