110 Upgrade

A number of years ago i upgraded my Dyna with a 110 kit, same as a CVO. When a head gasket started leaking i put the high comp pistons and SE258 cams in. I sold the bike a few year back and now the guy that bought it wants a bit more. Its burning a bit of oil so we will go 0.010" OS pistons which are available from SE, but i cant see anything in the CP catalouge or any others.

My question is, if I use a 0.030" head gasket and tighten up the squish and aim for 10.8 compression, what would be a good cam? Tman, S&S, Woods? I see these brands all over the forums, but dont have any experience with them. Also considering going to 58mm throttle body too.

How will the standard 110 heads flow, the valves are big, but the ports havent been touched from the casting by the looks of it.

When searching the net i did see a forum post mentioning 113 pistons into 110 barrels but that must leave the liner pretty thin.

    Thanks

You'll need a 9-10cc domed piston to achieve the compression you want with the 110 heads. With a little less CR (10.5:1 static) the 590 or 625 would be my choices in the TMan cams. The 585 or the new 635 with the Easy Start feature would be the choices in the S&S range.
Port clean up & a good valve job is all you need for a good street engine & the 58mm TB is MORE than adequate for street performance.

CP make a +0.060 (113) piston for the 110. A few places in the US stock them, Hyperformance & GMR come to mind. - Rob

    Thanks Rob

Is the 113 piston simply a 4.060" piston as in SE 113 kit? There couldn't be much difference.

The SE 110 hi comp piston has a dome on it, haven't measured yet, but with a 0.030" head gasket and have the pistons a 0 deck height, 10.8 should be spot on. I aint no Jerry Branch so I don't really want to mess with the ports too much, but will be changing valve springs and checking retainer to seal clearance.

The SE 113 pistons are designed for the 113/120R cylinders, as these have a longer spigots. The CP 110 +0.060 (113) pistons with fuller skirts, as opposed to the SE 113 pistons, are designed for the 110 cylinders I would think. I haven't really looked into it that much.
10.8CR would be pushing it with the cams I mentioned, & cams bigger than the ones mentioned would be mid to upper range IMHO (S&S 625 etc) , but good high way cams though.

Good clean up & blending of the sharp edge under the valve seat, is a good start. AV&V beehive springs along with their valve guides are a good idea also. - Rob

I already have the SE 110 pistons coming. I think those are 113" +0.010 which would be beyond a 110 barrel.

I still need to decide on the cam. 662-2 may be a bit big, so might go a little smaller.
