G'day TD,, looks like your just starting out on the tuning topic... plenty on here , and other forums to get an idea of the basics of what you may require ,, so I wont reinvent the wheel here... It can get a bit confusing ,, so as the member above advised,, find a local tuner , and go with his recommendation.. With the mods you have mentioned above,, any of the popular tuning devices, will have your bike running , and performing as it should ...

Post up the area you live,, and then members may be able to advise you of a competent tuner/workshop in your area !!! Cheers ..

If the SE Tuner has already been used, I believe they pair with only one bike, so no good to you, please correct me if I'm wrong.

The other way to go is an Auto Tuner, that way you will have no need for a tune every time you change the exhausts or air induction make up.

Thanks for the info guys, im in the wide bay area, and a local dyno shop here told me the tuner plus a dyno he'll do a "package" deal, $850..... i was a bit taken back when you get on sites like E-Bay..... then J&P cycles plus HD shops, and  the prices vary from $185 up to 6-700 dollars, just trying to do it right without been taken for a ride.... cheers.

td, are you already riding the bike with the pipes and air filter fitted? If so then I would advise that you either put the standard filter back on or get a tuner ASAP otherwise you are running you bike way to lean.

i use a powervision came set up with the mods i have for my bike an i can do auto tunes(fine tuning) on the run similar to dynoing your bike i have removed all the decel pop myself an my bike is running as good as i could expect

heaps of info on these here do a search Mate the reason i went with the powervision was it's user friendliness

    just my 2c

I run a Thundermax on mine, but wished I did a bit more research before biting the bullet. In hindsight, I would probably have gone for powervision or similar as they seem a little more user friendly, & as someone mentioned, you can tune your bike on the go with their portable data logger / display unit.

Hey guys, yeah i was running ths S&S air cleaner kit and the pipes but went back to standard air cleaner. I have heard the power visions are a good tuner, the bike has not had a tuner put through it yet. Bit of a newbie question, can my local dyno shop who does alot of harleys and other bikes tune my bike regardless of the tuner i purchase???? if i bought a power cision, does it come with everything i need???? any tips as to whom i can buy through???? cheers in advance.

td, You need to ask the shop as he may not have the software or knowledge for the tuner you end up buying. If you are in Perth I can put you in touch with someone if not I'm sure someone on here will know a good dyno shop in your state.

My personal preference is for the TTS Mark at M&M (USA) is great to deal with, less than $500 delivered. I have heard good things about the power Vision though and the beauty of both the TTS and PV is that it can be done by yourself at home or a tuner if you don't feel confident.

Just whatever you buy don't get one that has been used and is paired to a bike already, for example my TTS connected to your bike would allow us to read details of what your map looks like but wouldn't allow us to make any changes. And yes people do still try to sell them used.

if you go with a powervision i recommend you go through fuelmoto they will give you great after sales service and if you need a new tune for new mods then all it will take is a email with the new mods an off ya go

fuelmoto have a few youtube clips on there site showing the basics

    Hi All,

I thought I might add something else to the equation other than a "tuner" for what it is worth, as I added an XIED unit to my stage one set up, rather than forking out large sums of money for a tuner because not all of us that own harleys have lots of cash eh! I have been pretty happy with the addition as I am not after the finite best from my iron steed, but rather a fast and well fed one (and thats why I own a road king)....

Ct, yeah they work if you aren't going to Dyno your bike like the OP say's he's going to do.

I tried them years back on a Sporty and they seemed ok but all it's doing is telling the ECM that the engine's cold and to put more fuel in so basically you are running the bike as if you have the choke on all the time (yes I know it's efi so no carb). Obviously this means the fuel/air mix is richer but it's nowhere near perfect. I agree it's a cheap simple fix for a stage 1 but I would only do it as a last resort, besides once you go to stage 2 you need to get a tuner anyway.
